Re: Hello from FILM Ferrania!

If I recall from previous discussions, S8 starts life as DS8 and then slit to 8mm. It is also possible that wide rolls are perforated with multiple s8 perforations then slit to 8mm. But I don't think the film is slit to 8mm then perforated. If Ferrania could furnished unperforated 16mm or 35mm, Cust...

Re: Hello from FILM Ferrania!

DS8 would be a very important addition because there are several labs that can slit film and load into Kodak cartridges but can not perforate the film. The question is can Ferrania perforate to DS8? Another thought would be to offer your film as unperforated stock for companies that can perforate to...

Re: Kodak rumors - new film stocks and hardware

I believe the first use of super 8 VNF was for surveillance cameras.

Re: Which of these 3 cameras is best for low light?

One of the best low light cameras is the Canon 310XL with the f/1.0 lens. There is a manual focus and an auto focus version. I have used the AF310XLS and could take wedding films in poorly lit missions with good results. The Kodachrome was amazing that it could be used with so little light. J.S.

Re: Hello from FILM Ferrania!

I contributed to the Kickstarter campaign and was promised "gifts". I selected super 8 and 16mm. 16mm is straight forward but I am thinking about how will the super 8 "gift" be supplied; in a camera ready cartridge or on a spool that will have to be loaded by me into a cartridge? While it would be n...

I think TRI-X is selling well because it can be projected directly. That is what people want. Too bad the V3 can't be reversed somehow!

Re: No news from Ferrania is not good.

Received an email from Ferrania. Looks like they have the new coater running. Thought it interesting that they are using 90's electronics to run a machine from the 50's to manufacture a technology from the 30's.

Re: Vision 3 50D 8mm film - Bolex Plant in Switzerland

Very nice result. No doubt 50D is a great film R8. The dust may be from loading the camera or end of spool handling when loading into transfer device. It looks like the dust is mostly at the end of the shot. Do you plan to supply print film so that customers who wish to project their film can have a...

Re: Fomapan redux

I believe the DR5 web page has a list of FOMA emulsions to be avoided at the bottom of the page. They were tired of being blamed for poor results when the problem was with FOMA. Also at the top of page there is a statement that they are moving from Denver location. Not certain what it means. Out of ...

Re: Fomapan redux

The FOMA website shows that DR5 processes Fomapan in the USA but the DR5 website mentions nothing about processing FOMAPAN. I know DR5 has a reputation of being a premier B/W processing lab. Has anyone had experience with DR5 and Fomapan?

Re: Fomapan redux

Is FOMA still making B/W Fomapan 100? I have seen in several posts that they have ceased production of Fomapan. I believe Yale moved to a new location and didn't get permits to handle photo chemicals as industrial waste. They now send film out to another lab. My guess is Cinelab in Boston but that's...

Re: Elmo Super 8 Sound 230S-XL Shooter question

It has been my experience with this camera and similar models that everything will work but the claw and film advance motor will fail and not engage when the trigger is pulled. It would seem that there is a bad contact somewhere but I could never find the problem. Sometimes cleaning the battery cont...

Re: New Kodak Super 8 Camera Preview

That's interesting that it is on Facebook but the official Kodak website has no mention of the lab. The website that Facebook directs to does not seem to have any info about new lab in NYC. Seems that not everyone at Kodak is reading the same memos. Also where is the new camera? Double also - it see...
