Re: Another Film Cleaning Solution?

Weren't some of these brushes radioactive? http://www.amateurphotographer.co.uk/latest/photo-news/polonium-210-present-in-darkroom-gadget-28372 Beware :-?? Yikes, It would probably be ok if I didn't have curious kids. Black Magic Design is now selling a PTR set of 4 for $299, that goes with their s...

Another Film Cleaning Solution?

https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/ ... eaner.html
Bristles seem counter-intuitive but for $53 it could be a low cost solution. Every other option would cost at least $500. Has anyone used anything like this with any success or damage?

May is here and no word on the release. Now it's sounding like fall? Has anyone heard anything?

Re: What have you been working on lately?

Awesome! :) Another project that has come up: I'm going to do a re-make of a music video I shot on Super8 many years ago. Back then it was scanned on a Workprinter from Moviestuff. Now it's time to scan it in 4K and released it in UHD most likely. I found a link on Youtube to the original video. Ve...

Re: What have you been working on lately?

I'm working on an experimental video for a group called King Black Acid who has a new album coming out. I'm doing all the shooting, scanning, coloring and editing, all Super 8 200T/500T and a little 50D. I used 2 Nizo 481's and a Canon 814XLS. Lots of animated and open shutter shots, all came out gr...

Re: Kodak awakens, new S8 camera announced at CES '16

Last I heard, they were anticipating May 2017 for the target release date. I tried to get ahold of a rep last month, we exchanged a few massages, but only got to sign up to order once they are availabe. So I'm just patiently waiting to see what May brings. It's still 6 months behind the initial targ...

Re: Any way to do sync sound?

I used to do sync sound with S8 in digital form, which still proved difficult due to the camera drift. The only real bet for S8 sound is the new Kodak camera coming out maybe next month, and more in the fall. Crystal sync audio and on board SD recording. I wouldn't waste my time or money on any cumb...

Re: Interested in a new RetroScan Universal?

Yes, I had that problem. Updating to windows 10 with the last generation of chip sockets results in overloading your CPU, which causes image tearing on capture. You need the latest generation chipset to run Windows 10. A prime example of ever changing PC compatability issues. And I will point out, a...

Re: Interested in a new RetroScan Universal?

Hopefully the latest software update wll run well with Windows 7 pro? The option to scan lower than 2K is a good idea for those who have older systems. I don't mind upgrading the camera, but don't want to build a new PC until the wheels come off my current machine. I built it in 2010 for capture and...

What is the "break out box"? I don't see anything about it on the website.

Re: Who's Left Shooting 16mm?

I've only shot about 400ft of 16mm in the last year. I'd like to use it more but not that happy with some of the glare or scatter I'm getting from my wide angle Switars on my Rex4. They're a funky diameter that are really hard to find shades or filters for. If I can sort it out it would be real nice...

Re: Wolverine 8mm and Super 8 Movie Reels to Digital MovieMa

I have yet to actually see the Wolverine in person but it doesn't appear to be very heavy duty, actually kind of chintzy. So even though the results are flawed to a degree by our standards, they're still better than I would expect. The only other unit in the consumer price range to speak of is Movie...

Re: Wolverine 8mm and Super 8 Movie Reels to Digital MovieMa

I think the results from this machine look fairly decent for what it is... perfect for regular folks who just to watch their old home movies.. Really? I think the compression and artifacting on that is shockingly brutal. I've seen film-to-VHS-to-digital transfers with more sharpness and detail. If ...

Re: RetroScan Universal 16mm Optical Trck Tests

Yes I love it, opens up a whole new realm of scanning. Here's a film I scanned for my local water dept from 1959, with a Variable Density Track. Also did two more for them, one from 74 and 84. The 84 reel has a nice stereo track. Here's a link to their youtube
