Re: Crap 8mm Releases Vision 3

Apparently they must be doing something right, because they're still around. And I daresay that because they're still around, Super-8's still around--because if it were left up to Kodak, it'd have been dead and buried long ago. I can't stress it enough how true that is. I think it can be said that ...

Re: Is pro8mm still on the naughty list with most?

One good thing about Pro 8-- if Kodak goes down the tubes, Phil will still be making film down there!

Re: Crap 8mm Releases Vision 3

Jim, It seems a little bit perverse to me that in one thread you appear to be advocating buying Kodak Super 8 in order to satisfy the bean-counters that the format is profitable, whilst in another you seem to suggest that we should try Pro8mm's "reformatted" V3 250D. I'm not trying to be too nit-pi...

Re: Is pro8mm still on the naughty list with most?

They were never on mine-- I'm right down the street and never had what I would call a problem. I think at one time there were some unhappy and tactless people that worked there, and this might have aggravated things, but that was long ago. There were some problems with the 6080s and the like, becaus...

Re: Kodak's closing their Colorado Super 8 plant: buy film now!

The Windsor plant does packing and finishing for most of their MP film-- not just super 8-- not sure why they relocated there in the first place-- probably lots of reasons-- they already had a small reliable operation, closer to Hollywood for the shipping, an Anglo work force who needs jobs, less un...

Re: Building An Animation Camera Stand

Very cool. Did you get it from a DIY project somewnere or is it totally custom?-- and the Mitchell, how is that working out? Where'd you get ahold of it? Everytime I drive by the old Mitchell factory on San Fernando Rd. in Glendale I sigh-- it was an amazing place-- like a huge loading dock full of ...

Re: Kodak's closing their Colorado Super 8 plant: buy film now!

Buy anyway- if sales drop they will definitely be making some serious decisions in the fall-- they're not going to retool Rochester if there's no market, and forces within the company are going to demand cutbacks. It's the perfect opportunity for drastic cuts. You guys have been warned-- no bitching...

APUG is good on Kodachrome, too. And listen to Mowrey on those sites-- he's the guy that actually invented the new Kodachrome. He'll tell you that it can even be processed at home....

Re: Kodak's closing their Colorado Super 8 plant: buy film now!

No I didn't-- but they've been farming out the cartridges the last few years anyway. No need to panic, it's just that this Windsor closing will allow Kodak to reevaluate their whole market. I doubt whether they have made a final decision about super 8, but it will be determined by this year's sales,...
