Re: Abrams on why Star Trek was shot on film and not video

"Director JJ Abrams wanted to avoid 'that digital phony look' by shooting Star Trek on film." http:-) Scot I wonder if he also managed to avoid that oh so 'digital phoney look' that some people call CGI - give me a well lit model any day - bloody CGI can look as phoney as men in rubber suits someti...

Re: BBC calls film "Video"???!!!???

I've been in video for 12 years... it still annoys me when people ask me what I'm "filming" i'm like, "uhh... this is video 29.9 frames per second, not 24..." The people look at me like I'm the one that is retarded. I'm just now getting into film and look forward to many more posts on the matter. I...

Re: Using Vision2 500T in a Canon 814xls

The 814XLS will run V500 fine. The way Kodak sets it up, it will be automatically one-stop overexposed at ASA 250, but that's per their recommendation. If you want to, you can cut a filter notch in the cartridge, in which case the film will be exposed at ASA 400. This way you will also be able to us...

That looks fantastic.

Man, I'd love to tackle Avisynth, but the learning curve is just so steep. Great work Fred.

Re: New John Schwind Site (Regular 8 Film)

Interesting. Did Larry Pearce finally retire?-- he was a true original-- I used to read all about him when he was a young guy, just like Tony Shapps. The claw position has always been a big topic in Regular 8-- most people don't know that mismatched positions between camera and projector can result ...

Re: Kodak's closing their Colorado Super 8 plant: buy film now!

How well does 100D run through cameras?

This issue came up a few years ago, and didn't John Pytlak have a few things to say about Kodak's decision of 64T over 100D?

If it's the L.A. place, it's run out of a gallery near downtown, and they're not always there. I can give you a number for it if you can't get ahold of them soon.

Angus wrote:... It could well be they will take "advantage" of this factory move to re-assess their entire MP film line.
I think that's exactly the case-- that's why I'm saying, "buy, buy and buy."

Re: Wittner visit to Kodak factory in Colorado

No, I think they were acting like they all just got their layoff notices the week before-- which was the case. No mention of who's going to Rochester, or why they are closing down the complete Windsor MP plant-- which was a surprise. They expected layoffs, but not a complete closing of 1/2 the entir...

Re: Kodak's closing their Colorado Super 8 plant: buy film now!

And don't forget Agfa, GAF/Ansco, 3M, Ferrania, Dynachrome, Superior Bulk Film, Eso-S, Sears, Wards, Boots (the last three used assortments of whatever they could get), and Gratispool- who had super 8 for about two months before they went bust. I'm not worried about things right now-- but I'd still ...

Re: What S8 to use?

Why did they build cameras this way? What if they put a blue filter ( I forgot which number) in the camera for when you are shooting in daylight conditions indoors? Then there would be no need to have a special tungsten film. There wasn't any daylight filmstocks in the Super-8 days. This is why we ...

Re: lab for black and white

All the super 8 labs will develop B/W except Dwayne's. All have their plus and minuses but they are all decent and will do good work. Check Kodak's list of S8 labs, it's a little out of date but a good place to start:
