What's the current state of 35mm processing & telecine?

Hi all, I'm considering the purchase of a 35mm camera, but the decision is quite dependent on labs that can process 35mm b/w and colour neg at a reasonable cost... and then there's scanning. Does anyone have any recommendations/suggestions on reliable, cheap labs? Lowest price I've found is 19c per ...

Re: The new Retro scanners from MovieStuff

Looking good.

Does the new 16mm unit scan ultrapan8? Also, I assume it uses the same camera as the 8mm version.

Thanks!

Re: The $3,000 open source multi-format 8/16/35 scanner proj

Fantastic work... I like how $2000 of that cost appears to be the camera, so in reality it's a $1200 printer and you use your family camera. Though I'd have to get a 3D printer, so that's an added cost.

if it could be converted RAW -> 32bit EXR, now we're talking turkey, but that's gonna need alot of space.

Re: Has anyone tested Retro-8 from MovieStuff yet?

I just want to know when the 16mm version will be hitting the showroom floor... I have a growing archive of ultrapan8 that I'd love to be able to scan 'in-house', along with super16 and reg16.

Re: 8mm in C41 chemistry?

Agfa color processing chemistry is great. I remember when I was hand processing 8x10 Kodak color infrared 2443 as a negative... when I used Kodak C-41 chemistry, the film was left with a heavy magenta cast that made the image unprintable. In contrast, Agfa chemistry gave a beautiful images with no c...

Re: Recommendations for replacing a Bolex power grip?

I'm thinking I'll go with an NiMH battery and cable from procam... they can get it to me in time for the weekend. WOOT!

Recommendations for replacing a Bolex power grip?

Hi! I have an ESM with a power grip, but after a big day of scuba diving and interviews I dropped the grip and it's now a bit unreliable. I have another interview this weekend and I need a reliable replacement, but I'm not keen on the grip. Ideally, I want to just connect up a 12V battery to the ESM...

Edited:Looking to buy/borrow 5.5mm aspheron for switar 10mm.

I'm in the market for a switar 5.5mm aspheron for the switar 10mm, or the century 6mm WA, either with the 10mm or separately... I'm looking for a source either in Canada or US. In fact, just a 5-6mm lens that focuses sharply with a reflex bolex at f2 would be nice. Anyone? It's a long shot, but if a...

Figured out... How do I remove the turret handle off an H16

I have a shoot in the morning and I have a problem, a BIG problem. Just got my UP8 last night, but lo and behold that chrome turret handle doesn't fit in the underwater housing. In the H8 it was simple to remove, but this is an RX-5 base and it's more complex. How do I remove it!? ... I'm speaking o...

Re: A regular8 film test: tri-X underwater!

Thanks Nicholas, Yeah, I'll be shooting vision3 250D for principle photography, re-perfed by Edward Nowill. Even on my last project I noticed the difference between the colour and the b+w stock that went beyond the structural differences... it was jarring to go from one to the other, so I'll be keep...

Re: A regular8 film test: tri-X underwater!

Thanks, BAC! This is the standard spring winding Bolex housing... it's very simple and solid as a rock; you can go 330ft, roughly 10 atmospheres, with it... I've taken it 160ft with no issue and plan to go 250ft in a week or so. There's no ability to pressurize the housing, just a clamp to keep the ...
