Re: Transferring 16mm Prints

Although Roger indicates he's not an attorney, his writing could be used as a brief on the topic, sans specific court case citation. The best course is to never convert ANY copyrighted material without the express written permission of the owner, unless it is truly for personal use and will never EV...

Re: Film Cleaner

I use Solvon from Urbanskifilm.com

I don't like Edwal. Solvon dries instantly, and is safe for all film and optical and magnetic sound tracks.

Jon

Re: MovieStuff surviving Hurricane Harvey!

Have a former co-worker and fellow retiree that retired to TX, and lost her home due to flooding. Her fellow retirees are funding her through a gofundme site. It's nice to do directed giving that way. She used my film capture service years ago with Roger's Moviestuff equipment. I sent her much more ...

Re: Audio module for Universal, Retro, Sniper and WorkPrinter units!

Roger, Excellent idea and product! Can't wait! Having spent hours and hours syncing both 8mm magnetic and 16mm optical sound tracks on even short films, your new equipment will definitely be a time-saver. I think the essential problem with syncing was the variability of the sound projector motor spe...

Re: Advice on a camera for a Workprinter XP

Not sure about ascertaining hours, but I had a GL2 and it developed a dead pixel, which was a common problem with these models. Not very noticeable, but annoying, because you know it's there. I was using a Canon Vixia HV-40 for HD capture until today, at a -5.50 setting with Velocity. I couldn't zoo...

Re: Any way to do sync sound?

Don't know if my response is pertinent, but I capture old Super8 film with a magnetic tape track, and 16mm film with an optical sound track, separately. I then synchronize the audio and video on the editing timeline. I use Moviestuff.tv vintage Workpinters for the video, and regular sound projectors...

Re: Velocity HD and Windows XP BSOD

Update: Turns out it was a faulty drive ( one of four 1TB drives) contained in my RAID-0 array. I replaced all four drives, and everything works fine. Makes sense, because I hadn't fired up the computer for several months, and the only moving parts inside are hard disks, so it's no surprise one got ...

Velocity HD and Windows XP BSOD

Hadn't used my WorkPinter and Velocity HD software for film capture for about 7 months. Upon trying to use it, it would start to capture, but then freeze and give a BSOD Windows message: "DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL" and, STOP: 0x00000D1 (etc.), and, iastor.sys - Address B7E4875A (etc.) I tried ma...

Re: Using Kimtech Wipes to Clean 8mm Film

I use old tshirts and film cleaning fluid from Urbanski. Never had any problems. It's best to clean only 25 to 50 feet at a time, and then change the cloth, depending on how dirty the film is. Film cleaning fluid is better, because it is made specifically for film, and "nourishes" it, if you will, I...

Re: Telecine Computer

Tscan, If you are selling your Workprinter set-up in favor of the Retro8, you might want to wait. You might find it better to have both available, at least until you have worked with both. My WorkprinterRGB with the LED sliders is sweet! Excellent pre-capture adjustment capabilities. You won't have ...

Re: CineCap Velocity Pulldown blur

I had a similar problem with the synch adjustment in Velocity. With my Workprinter, a Canon HV-40 and Velocity Box, I made a manual software adjustment to "-5.30" and ALL pulldown blur disappeared throughout the capture file. When I tried lower adjustments, the beginning of the capture would look fi...
