Re: kodak

50D is sold out on their site. If it comes back, all is well. If it gets discontinued, then if worry.

Re: Customer review: Universal 2K

I like the new improvements so far with the sensors and software. The still frame feature is key. I just finished scanning a bunch if K40 R8 came out super sharp. You can also see the camera noise on its own, so I ordered my 2K package today. Really excited.

Re: Film storage

The conditions you store them is something to consider. Stick to a dry area indoors that doesn't get too hot or humid. I've come across films stored in attics, barns, garage rafters, damp basements ect... with significant degradation. I've also seen rust formed in old metal cans and reels. I just bu...

Re: The 16mm to HD, 4K or 2k Question

A lot of it probably has optical sound. With 60K feet and maybe sound, you could easily end up paying well over 10K to have all that scanned, especially if you want audio sync. You could buy a new Moviestuff 2K unit with 16mm gate and sound unit for less than $7K. The results are really nice. Make s...

Re: Universal now offering 2K and Audio modules!

I'm sitting back watching a scan right now of a 400ft spool S8 neg I shot in 2014. I've scanned this roll before before with the old software, probably with the Retro 8, but the colors are so much more accurate and so damn good! I adjusted the green and red sliders a tad but nothing drastic. Won't h...

Re: Transferring 16mm Prints

I'v gotten into scanning prints lately with the Retro unit and AEO light app. I've posted a couple on Vimeo but i'm not worried about anything over copy rights since i'm sharing it for free. I've been gathering prints recently because it's amazing to think of how much information is spooled up over ...

Re: New Universal 2K software release at last!

Works great, the compressed .avi are about 500MB, play perfectly and look awesome. .mov's and QuickTime have always been painful on my windows machine so the compressed .avi are just perfect for raw screening.

Re: New Universal 2K software release at last!

I like the new look. The initial color settings for negative film is much better, easier to adjust for a cleaner starting point when it comes to color grading. I like the still focus feature too. I tired the .Avi but my version of Davinci doesn't like them. Processing is fast, although my file sizes...

Glad to hear, Moviestuff was born from the ashes of Hurricane Andrew if I recall? This one is unreal.

Out of curiosity, do you have any plans to add PTRs to your Retro (or future) scanners?

/Andreas
The Retro 8 had a place for such add ons. I'd be happy with any PTR setup if I could do it at a reasonaw cost

Re: Universal now offering 2K and Audio modules!

Sounds good, I sent an email for the sensor upgrade. I might wait until i secure a new camera before I order the upgrade, but it's in the plan. Doesn't sound like I'll need to build a faster PC, so that helps.

Re: Universal now offering 2K and Audio modules!

Eesh, been anticipating the 2K upgrade, but the need for added components puts the total cost at $1400. Cuts too far into my budget for new camera and film.

Re: Audio module for Universal, Retro, Sniper and WorkPrinter units!

The mobile unit sounds really cool, a good asset to a Canon 814/1014XLS. It's a cheaper option for sound sync than buying the new super 8 camera. A lot of people are happy with their old cameras would love to have this. As for scanning, a wide spectrum of public and private institutions are holding ...
