Re: Where can you buy positive 16mm color film?

Apparently Ferrania have made more progress in the past two weeks and things are looking more hopeful, with a new team-member just arrived. Colour film probably some time away yet but at least they talk of restarting that research. Theoretically, 16mm should be easier to produce than super-8 ?

Re: The return of Ektachrome - CES 2017

Hope that 'negative' number won't add some confusion when we send them to be processed :-o
At least it seems like it will be slightly different from the previous Ektachrome ? Hope slightly better. And look forward very much to the return of 16mm.

Re: 16mm/8mm ghost footage??

Not a ghost perhaps, but several years ago I caught a UFO in broad daylight: http://bridportradio.co.uk/bridport-news/2898-ufo-over-bridport Unfortunately it was photographed with a digital camera that was sitting on the table, and ironically some people didn't believe it was genuine ... they may ha...

Re: New Kodak Super 8 Camera Preview

On the contrary, I don't miss sound cartridges at all. Having sound striped on film is so 1970s. ;) Much better to use an external digital recorder today. I miss them for how terribly bad they sounded. It was like a telephone recording. Uniquely horrendous. The Beaulieu 5008 gunmike recordings were...

You mean chemical film as opposed to video ?
Oh yes I see ! 16 / 8mm
So what makes you think this ?

Re: New Kodak Super 8 Camera Preview

Silverdream...You have a point. Sound cartridges were a good idea and when recorded well gave quality results. Many would-be super-8 people today are a little put off by the lack of sound. True there are now so many small devices to record sound, but a sync track is a perfect way to do it, if only a...

Still hope :)
Maybe a black and white 16mm film could be achieved in the meantime ? And super-8 surely needs one now, with Adox gone... or is it ?

Re: Gauge Film - times slots?

Also, as the gaugefilm team is small I hope sometimes they can emerge from the darkroom into the glorious UK summer we are having :) I know it can be agonising waiting when in the middle of an important project as you obviously are. I can only suggest doing the E6 yourself, it's not that difficult. ...

Re: The State of Double Super 8

Mmechanic, I hadn't until now realised that super-8 cartridges all originate from double super-8. DS8 itself would appear to be a moreorless perfect medium. I've never used it, and am ashamed to say that once many years ago I sold a DS8 Quarz thinking it was regular-8mm :)) Now they are like hens' t...

Re: Where can you buy positive 16mm color film?

In theory, super-8 should be a lot better than regular due to the extra image area, even more so with max-8. But that's unlikely unless it's a Logmar camera, because of the inferior registration and lack of film flatness. However, handheld shooting of closeups does tend to look good on super-8. Back...

Re: Where can you buy positive 16mm color film?

Kodachrome 25 wonderful stuff :ymhug: I always slightly regret not using it more, instead of K40. When I look at my old 16mm films, even Agfa was very sharp and fine grained. 16asa I think. And these were the days when fast lenses were hard to obtain. It does seem odd that when most shooting by folk...

Re: Where can you buy positive 16mm color film?

Silverdream that does sound good :) And she says 100ft spools too ! Depending as always on the price, I may well go for the 100ft option. In the past there wasn't too much difference between buying a 400ft roll and 4x 100ft rolls when you consider the fact of potentially another metre or two of shoo...

Re: Where can you buy positive 16mm color film?

Silverdream, where did you hear that about 400ft rolls of 16mm ? Great if that happens, always assuming they don't put the prices through the roof. 10 rolls isn't so bad, especially if two or more filmshooters get together. And no problem for dealers either. Personally I'm still fine for E100D, thou...

Re: Tripod Talk

I find the biggest cause of camera shake is the heavy zoom lens on the front. The weight of the body isn't a problem usually, in fact it helps stability. So lately I've tried to use shorter lenses for handheld filming. Not necessarily short focal length. The Bolex Compact 17-85 c-mount is a handy le...
