Re: How the Sky Will Melt - Super 8 Feature

Back in the 'good ol' days' when it was shoot film or nothing there wasn't a flooded market for indie feature films, so the gems were more likely to get noticed, picked up, polished and promoted by the big players (as was the case with El Mariachi or Clerks). Now there are thousands of indie feature...

Re: A new Super 8 camera - possibly

Given that Downix hasn't mentioned it since then and was shooting on a chinon as recently as last october, I'd say the dream is dead.

Re: Glenn Brady - Inaugural UltraPan8 test roll w/ E100D

Some of the best UP8 footage I've seen so far.

This has probably been discussed before but... what does one need to 'build' a camera?
(A bolex H16rx & a H8?) How much does the conversion cost? Etc...

Re: Digital Bolex

I can understand a little disapproval (this is the "FILMshooting" forum afterall) but what a bunch of killjoys. :|

I think this camera looks great. There isn't that many raw shooting s16 sensor size cameras as far as I know, and only one in production (Ikonoskop DII).

Re: Telecine 5 blade projectors

Here's an old quote from Roger that explains the blades vs camera fps: Okay, here is how it works: A three bladed shutter means that the film is "blinking" three times per frame. NTSC scans at about 60 fields per second. 3 will divide into 60 twenty times, which is why the flicker goes away at about...

Re: eumig nautica

I'm pretty sure that it works underwater NOT in PMA mode.

You need to switch it into PMA mode for the wide angle adapter to work or to shoot macros, but it should work fine in the normal zoom mode underwater.

Super-8 = 3.68 x 4.88mm which gives a diagonal of 6,112 Let me google that for you: Super 8 frame size Wikipedia says Super 8 = 4.01mm x 5.79mm (diagonal = 7.04mm) Apparently SMPTE says Super 8 = 4.22mm x 5.69mm (diagonal = 7.08mm) Assuming one of those is actually right. It looks like you're think...

Re: What word says what a colourist does?

I think I've seen it referred to as 'colouring'.

But more commonly in my experience it's called 'grading'. Maybe there is another term though?

E.g.
"Bob will grade the film", or "Alice is grading the film".

Re: UltraPan8 Stereo

wouldn't it be much easier as you say to split the frame vertically and use the full 16mm height? I.e. just use a 16mm camera and have the stereo frames in an over/under configuration. (No need to run the camera at 48fps and use motion interpolation.) I'm pretty sure there have been over/under 3d se...

Re: Any digital movie camera has rolling shutter like cellul

The Arri D-20 & D-21 both had mechanical shutters and optical viewfinders similar to those in a 35mm motion picture camera.

Elmo 204T Manual

I had the misfortune to pickup an Elmo 204T a couple of months ago. Quite a cool concept, let down by one of the worst viewfinders I've ever looked through. I've finally got around to scanning the manual into a pdf. Super8.no seems to be gone, so I've uploaded it to rapidshare: https://rapidshare.co...

Re: best c-mount lenses

What's wrong with the schneider or angenieux lenses that originally came with the beaulieus? aren't they fast or sharp enough? I just bought a 6008 without a lens and am also looking for something wide and fast too. The zeiss ultra 16's with a pl to c mount adapter would be nice, but how much better...

Re: Behold the power of film.

How many megapixels would you need to take a picture like that now? (do there exist digital cameras that could do that?) Mark The jpeg is only about 8megapixels. Would a decent 16+ megapixel camera produce a similar amount of detail? You might not even need that much. But the 8 megapixel scan proba...
