Re: The return of Ektachrome 100D - CES 2017

There are even rumours about the return of Kodachrome: https://soundcloud.com/the-kodakery/discussing-the-new-kodak-super-8-camera-live-from-kodak-studios-at-ces (go to about 23:40 and listen) "You just broke the internet, right there." :) A return of Kodachrome...now wouldn't that be something. Recalibrating 40/160 cams

What's the current experience and/or opinions about going in to 40/160 only cams and recalibrating the exposure for other stocks? Has anybody here done it or tried it at all? Have any opinions about it? I know for most of the junk cameras it would simply be a waste of time, but I got an Agfa Microfl...

Indy 500 16mm Artist Film

I know there were some racing fans on here in the old days, so I just wanted to pass on something I found from and about artist Slater Bradley: He made a film at the Indy 500 a few years back and shot it on Super 16mm with an Arriflex and a Bolex. I've shot lots of Super 8 at the 500 but have never ...

It was bound to happen. Regardless, it's just another expensive camera I'll never own. :P

Re: Stephen Broomer's new experimental UltraPan8 3.1 film

Great piece by Broomer--wonderful subject and context for the UltraPan8 format. I've been doing some nature shooting lately and I wish I had this camera and setup to bring something special to it. Maybe someday. Continued congratulations to you Nicholas and all of the filmmakers using UltraPan. Tim

Something on the state of the art/hype of 3D printing:

Re: 3D printed Lens Adapter

Is this going to be the solution to all of the broken polyester gears in old low-end cameras?

How strong is the final printed thing--would the teeth on a printed gear withstand normal stresses?

Probably the same problem as the polyester originals--but you could make a lot of them.

Re: Pro8 introduces 200D color reversal

A couple of drawbacks--polyester, so no cement splicing, and expensive ($45 a cart, process paid) Yikes!

But better than nothing, I suppose. Why do I keep finding myself saying that about everything related to film lately?

Tri-x is my one and only friend.

Re: Kodak Announces Sale of Patents

It's still kind of a sad and bitter story. Ten, twenty years down the road, when Kodak is either long gone or just a small niche manufacturer, historians will look back on this as the moment they had to sell the family jewels. I know they blew the digital imaging thing long ago, but they did still h...

Right on.

I'm just sick and sad about this whole thing. What a waste.

Re: Pulse of Life on Youtube

Yeah, that is really great. I hadn't seen it before either so thanks for the reminder. Makes me wonder why we collectively don't do more things like that--seems so much simpler and frutiful than the complicated "pass the cart" projects. I suppose it's just someone taking the initiative. But so many ...

Re: Super8 to HD?? Really??

Seriously people... You are one cranky fucker. Guy Maddin shoots some pretty killer features on Super 8. Of course there are many other things that factor in to him getting those films made and seen, and there is not that much concern with "traditional" aesthetics, but it can be done--successfully ...
