IS this a good camera..won on Ebay?

Post by mwkurt »

Hello,

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 98553&rd=1

I have recently won this Canon 814XL on Ebay and was wondering if I could get some feedback from the experts on the board about this camera? It looks like a later model 814 to me. Is it? Does it still have the same quality as the earlier versions. This model has a 220 degree shutter, right? Is there a source for a manual? This camera will, without any modifications, accept and properly shoot the new 64t film???
Thanks so much!

All the Canon cameras are good because they have nice lenses.

The camera will work with the new 64T without modifications as you can manually overide the internal meter.

Yes there is a source. It is called the Manuals Section on this site. Which happens to have the manual of this camera.

it doesn't run at 24 fps, which would make it useless for me, but otherwise it's a great camera. the shutter is variable if you don't like the blurry images a 220 degree shutter can produce at 18 fps.

In my opinion the lack of a 24fps filming speed is the biggest drawback to your camera. I own the camera which came before it, the 814 Electronic, which is nice and solid and has a 24 fps setting as well as a "slow-motion" setting of something like 36 fps, although I feel you really need to get to 48 fps and above to achieve a good slo-mo effect. The original 814 (non- "Electronic") is very nice too, but doesn't have the macro feature.

It's a great starter camera. not a bad price either. 18fps will give you 3min 20 sec. 24fps is better for motion blur, digital transfer, and sound sync.. things you should not worry about just yet. just learn to shoot some nice pictures.
100D and Vision 3 please
