super 8 HDV

Post by PITIRRE »

I know that this is not a video forum but I am like a lot of people here who use NLE system to edit their films, so here is it:

1- with the new ILIFE 05 software from apple IMOVIE came with HDV but correct me if I am wrong, in order to get the maximum quality of HDV you need a HDV camera and a HDV TV or monitor to watch it. (this is in case you are using video footage)

2- Can super 8 benefit from HDV? can anyone have examples of super 8 stills with HDV and without it?

Thanks

I ordered a WorkPrinter for my Super8 film, and should be getting an HDV FX1 or Z1 within the next few months. I'm going to do a comparison between my VX2000 and the FX1 with the WorkPrinter. Of course, using a 16x9 HDV cam to capture 4:3 Super8 might lose some of the resolution of the HDV, but it should still be better than the VX2000 I use now.

A lot of people argue that HDV is pointless if you can't make HD DVD's/Blu-Ray, and if you don't have a HD TV to watch it on. That actually makes zero sense to me. If that was true, then everything I watch on my hollywood DVD's, and everything I watch on my standard def TV is going to look like it was shot on a VX2000, which is obviously not the case. You start with better raw footage, you get a better final picture. The same should apply to doing telecine with Super8 film with a WorkPrinter, right?

I think it will be interesting to see, anyways!
