Great Bell & Howell ski shots

Post by matt5791 »

Hi there,

Just back from the Alpes and spent more time shooting Medium format than movie.

However I did shoot some super8 neg (7217 V2 200T) and, more interestingly for me, I persuaded a friend of mine to bring along his father's old Bell & Howell Standard 8 filmo -

I have never used Std 8 before, but what an AMAZING little camera to shoot with whilst 'on the move' (ie while boarding down a slope and filming someone else) It has a great 6.5mm wide lens on the turrett (Taylor Hobson) which is ideal for this sort of stuff AND the camera is so compact and it doesn't matter if you wide out and get snow all over it (well not too much)

Can't wait to see the results - film was PlusX 100ASA

Matt

PS I was in Zermatt and Cervinia
Birmingham UK.

I was just browsing some old topics and came across your experience with the B&H R8 Filmo camera. They were/are great, solid as a rock and reliable. More reliable than the Bolex vest-pockets (I believe) though they don't have the bells and whistles of the Bolexes. Maybe that is why they are still operating after possibly 65 years. I have three pre WW2 models and they would be the last to go if I sold my gear. Hope to see your Alps film on-line some day. :D

Cheers
