New Super 8 Facility!

New Super 8 Facility!
FYI message to all 8mm users. I am an independent filmmaker who makes extensive use of the super 8 film format. Found a great new place to process and telecine my super 8 film. It's called Spectra Film & Video, and they're in L.A. The footage they transferred for me BLEW ME AWAY! They have this new super 8/8mm dual gate on their rank telecine called the V3. It has killer optics and a great sound head for mag striped film. They have cheaper rates and far better customer service than Pro8mm. I highly recommend them. Check 'em out @ www.spectrafilmandvideo.com.

Well, I guess what impressed me the most was their new 8mm V3 gate. I had never seen or even heard of a switchable dual Super 8/Regular gate on rank telecine.
I've seen Super 8 gates (usually converted 16 mil) and Regular 8 gates (very rarely), but only as separate units. And the results can sometimes be marginal depending on where you go. The gate they have has manual focus, iris and zoom control features all on the gate itself!
Needless to say, it provides for enhanced capabilities in image manipulation. It worked really good on some old reg 8 home movies I had that were in pretty bad shape - warped film with soft focus edges - but came out beautifully.
Well worth the money, and very friendly helpful staff too.

hehehehe,
I guess kidshateme didn't make the cut.
I like your description of their process, is this a one of a kind super-8 rank gate they have made, or is it an entirely different process from rank? If they have something unique and better, and could offer it in the 200-250 range, that would be cool.
Can they do wetgate?

Alex,
Shehateme almost made the cut tho'.
Yes, it is a one-of-a-kind dual super 8/regular 8 RANK gate, at least for the U.S. market it is. The only other V3 gates that I know of are in Europe (U.K., Switzerland, etc.).
But they do professional quality color graded RANK telecine transfers using a fully digital Da Vinci color corrector. They don't offer wetgate, however.
Their price is $235 to Mini DV, but they offer discounts to first time customers or if you have a good size job to transfer.
