What should we call the widescreen version of super 8?
Quite a few people seem to have strong opinions about the name attached to the widescreen version of Super 8.
Widescreen television will soon be the worldwide standard, and I think a good name for widescreen Super 8 (along with a clever logo and some "branding" by the people who use it) will really help the format.
What would you choose as a suitable name? I've grabbed a list of ideas from recent posts and included them in no particular order.

Wide 8 is by far the best.
Short and good, you don´t want the name to be too long, Wide 8 is much better than Super Duper 8.

Wow, How nice to see that Film-Thurso's Super 8 Xtra is leading the way with Wide 8. That's one in the eye for supadupa who seemed to think no-one else had the idea before them. We ALL had the bloody idea before them- what do you expect if there's emulsion being wasted when there isn't a soundtrack.
My personal view is that a short name is best and in that Wide 8 or
tra seems to fit. Anything longer gets in the way. Putting super in front particularly in front of 'wide' infers a considerable amount of extra. Wide 8 or 8 Xtra suggests just a bit which is more appropriate.

Ultra 8? What is "Ultra" about it?
Wide 8 is the way to go, because the image is "wide", or at least wider than normal 8mm film.

Well, we didn't make a feature film in the format or put up a website promoting it. I think the credit for the idea goes to Rune Ericson, not one of us.FILM-THURSO wrote:That's one in the eye for supadupa who seemed to think no-one else had the idea before them. I've met Mitch and Rick -- they are big proponents of the format, but they are very quick to tell people that they didn't come up with the idea.
