BUMP: Timelapse Project
The dentist told me I have ground down my canine teeth. I told him I have been chomping at the bit while waiting for my timelapse film to be returned. He said I should worry less. I think I should get a new dentist.
Here's the information on the website as far as I know - a lot of people around the world probably have similar dental problems I would guess:
Timelapse Project 2003

Again I'm sorry for the delay. The film will be released on a DVD together with the 2004 timelapse project. The deadline for the edit is Dec 1st and then we will work on the DVD. Expect a DVD with both films around new year. Both films will be released on the web as soon as possible. Again, sorry - but the films will be out and you will get all your tapes and films back.
2004-05-03
The film is almost finished! The preview has been approved and is now back with the editor for some minor improvements and corrections. Expect a release very soon!
2004-03-25
Simon Baker is about to finished the edit and the project will hopefully be finished in April. I feel abit ashamed that this timelapse project has taken such a long time to finish, but I want to let you all know that it is soon to be finished and the copy work will soon start. I will send everything back to everyone. Don't worry about this. I will keep you updated.
Best regards,
Andreas Widerøe Andersen
See some stills from the project here: here! The films will be copied and sent to Simon Baker (Vidwerk) who will take care of the editing.
On May 17th about 40 people from all over the world took part in a global timelapse project where the aim was to create timelapses from all over the world in one day using one Super8 cartridge.
The rules were
All shots must be filmed on May 17th 2003
Maximum 1 cartridge per participant (or less)
You can choose between automatic timelapse and manual timelapse (stop motion). You can also include some normal/slow/fast motion filming.
You can use whatever filmstock you want
You can film whatever you want
The first 3 seconds of your film must be of a paper with your name and location written clearly in black. This is to keep track of the owners of each film.
Then what?
When you're finished filming, send the film off for development and as soon as you get it back, send it by Air-Mail to the address below.
You must include the following: 2 Mini-DV tapes or 1 VHS tape, some information about what's on the film (location, time, subject etc.) and a note with your name and address.
Norsk Smalfilm

After the transfers have been done you will get all your belongings (raw film, DV/VHS tapes) back. There is a small fee (Euro 10 or USD $10) to cover the shipping costs. You can either include cash in the letter or Paypal to: andreas@eunet.no.
All films must arrive prior to July 1st - Deadline!
When the films are received Norsk Smalfilm will take care of the telecine process and copying (free of charge).
PAL and NTSC issue
Norsk Smalfilm can only handle PAL at 25fps. This means we need someone to do the conversion job from PAL (European format) to NTSC (American format) for the American participants. Anyone who can help?
Editing - discussions, poll and music
The initial idea was to have one person in charge of editing all the footage together into one short film (5-25 minutes or so). However, lately there have been questions about if it would be possible for every participant to have a copy of all the raw material. This could let everyone freely experiment with the footage and make their own versions. Vidwerk AKA Simon Baker will take care of the short film editing. Thanks Simon!
My initial thought was to make one film everyone could submit to festivals or show to familiy and friends and say "Hey, check it out - I've been taking part in this film!". However, I do see the point in sharing the footage so everyone can make their own version. It's important we make sure to credit everyone in this case.
I've set up a new poll and discussion thread for this topic. Vote and discuss here!
I've contacted a friend of mine who's making electronic music with accoustic and electronic instruments and asked him if he could supply a few songs we can use for free. Much of this music would fit perfectly into a timelapse film. I'll keep you posted.
Jukka Sillanpää will also provide us with music for the project. He will send a CD with songs from his own band along with the film.

Things are delayed, but you WILL get your films back and YOU will get the final product. Don't worry about it.
I'm sorry about this but I must ask for your patience. Please. The 2003 project has been a problem because I lost contact with the editor more than half a year ago. Haven't heard from him since. That means I have to edit everything again with the preview Vidwerk (Simon Baker) left me. That's not so difficult, but I need the music mix which I have asked Jukkasil to do. This isn't ready yet. Also, starting up my own business have killed most of my spare time the past year.
The 2004 project is coming along slowly, but things are happening. You will see something soon.
I didn't want to release this, but here's the preview of the 2003 project. This is not the final scan, not the final film, but it will look pretty much like this one. The titles and credits will be changed/corrected. Music by Sorb-i-tol.

Thanks for the update Andreas...
I think... (and in no means am I intending to sound "mean" or "angry" because I am not. I am a really easy going person.... here's a smiley :) )
I think that the music thing is not really necessary (my own humble opinion and perhaps a few others) only due to the extreme length of time this has taken. (again, no offense, we all have busy lives like you - heck, I have kids...celebrated 2 birthdays so far since shooting...).
I mean, a simple quality transfer of the footage dissolved one after the other on a SILENT dvd (NTSC please for me, PAL for others) in mpg2 would be fine to many of us I am sure.
Then, if at some later date you get the sound track worked out with Jukka, we could simply download it from jukkas website and add it on in our timeline on our own computers. No problemo there.
Think about the revolutionary concept here - you completely offload the production to those of us who submitted in the first place. Pretty sure most folks could buddy up with someone to make sure everyone got a final sound version without a problem...to me a dvd costs like 30 cents. add in 40 cents to mail and I could easily mail a few out no worries (to a few USA people that is).
Anyway, these are just my rambling thoughts. Like most things in life, this great idea I think got a tiny bit out of hand (through noone's intentional motives) and time is against all of us now (always has been I guess when you think about it).
Put me down for one silent copy and the original film...
OK, my rambling is over.
Best wishes in a speedy production.
Cheers,
Michael

Could someone(anyone) make the WMV file available via HTTP? For some reason I have trouble accessing the ftp site from this computer. Oh, and please post or send me the link.
Thanks!

he's probably referring to the svcd version. i think what happened was that simon posted it on the ftp for andreas and/or jukka to look at, and some of us just happened to see it and quickly snatched it. it was removed after i posted the link to it here.al77 wrote:The link's in Andreas' post above, where it says 'pulse of life'
i don't think andreas would want me to post it publically, and i don't have the server space anyway, but if you have a personal ftp or something i can upload it to, let me know...

Please don't post it Mattias. I don't want it to float around the net until it's finished. Thanks.
