light meter batteries for Elmo C-300 Trifilmatic
Hello,
I own a Elmo C-300, but i don't have the light meter batteries, i need to get them so the meter can work, i know it needs poer even if it works manually, actually, this elmo c-300 is a power-eater it can take up to 10 batteries if you use the double super8 magazine, 4 for the motor, 4 for the zoom, 2 little batteries for the meter,
So, resuming, do you know what type of batteries does the light meter take, i'm not sure...

I just recently got a Dual-Filmatic and a Tri-Filmatic is on its way to replace my dead one. I have the manual for these cameras and they require a PX-25 battery for the meter. I have found one source on eBay for batteries that replace the mercury types (Wein Air cells). They have the PX25 but it is of a higher voltage so I don't know if the meter will work right until I get one to try. I think the manual exposure control will not work without a battery in the camera.
super8man, I read your page on the C300 and I can tell you the DS8 back will not fit the Dual-Filmatic. The Tri-Filmatic is the only one that will take the DS8 back and the regular 8mm back.

I have a lot of information on the great Elmo Trifilmatic.

Pictures are included along with very useful links, including an illustrated manual for the Elmo C-300 Double Super-8 Magazine.
I hope you enjoy it.

The Mallory PX-25 mercury battery I have (it's dead) says 4.05 volts on it. The current alkaline version has a voltage of 4.5 volts so it's not much of a difference. The source on eBay is a store called Battery Wholesale Distributors and their page is at:fritzcarraldo wrote:I still couldn't find what is the voltage of the light meter batteries in the Elmo C-300
I can't find no batteries on ebay either,
any ideas?
thanks

I got lucky with my TriFilmatic, the light meter batteries that came with it worked a while longer. I finally decided to see what made the mallory 3.9v batter so different. Its just a stack of 3 pen light batteries wrapped in a paper vest.
I replaced it with 3 1.5v batteries and it works fine.
Cheers,
Jordan
I love that camera.

When it came to my Gossen Luna Pro lightmeter alkaline batteries did make it read "hotter". So I use zinc-air cells in it. In the case of the Elmo when in manual mode the circuit uses the battery with a rheostat to adjust the aperture. It may cause the auto setting to read about one stop off.vonfilm wrote:Does the exact voltage matter if you are using the battery only to power up to set the aperture manually? I have one of the 4.5 volt batteries to use with my Elmo but I have not tried it yet. When I tried multiple zinc-air cells they did not last long.
That is the one problem I have with the Elmo. Most 8mm cameras I have found with auto/manual exposure allow you to manually adjust the iris without a battery.

The C300 I won on eBay came in the mail today. It came with a Super 8mm back and is to replace the body of the dead Tri-Filmatic I have. I tested it with batteries and with the DS8 100' back and everything works fine. Now I have to find the long viewfinder and special grip for the Tri-Filmatic I got stored away somewhere. Oddly enough there was a dead Mallory mercury battery in this one, like the Duo-Filmatic I got earlier. I wish these sellers would remove batteries from cameras that have been in storage. I have seen too many of them ruined by leaking batteries. I have ordered some PX-25 alkalines for both Elmos.
By the way, if anyone has a regular 8mm back for the Tri-Filmatic PM me and we can talk trade.
