Hi
My brother has just started a college course where he'll be filming and has asked for a Super 8 for his birthday.
I haven't a clue what I'm looking for and he's not been specific, anyone offer any pointers for me or have a good URL?
I believe there's a camera fair in Elstree, UK - anyone have any details (details seem to be short on the web).
Thanks in advance
Nick

elstree camera fair
elstree camera fair,is in Allum Hall,Allam Lane opposite railway stn(thameslink)........Doors open at 0915 £4.00 £1.80 after 1030hrs....get there early.....this is mainly a still camera fair but is a good source for cheap super8 equipment as are most of these camera fares. sometimes there is no equipment, luck of the draw...dont pay what the seller asks, always try to knock down.Take a set of LR6 batteries along to test the equipment.

Look here too for used S8 cameras
Hi,
Look at my WEB-pages too for used - but good and working - cameras. I am an amateur myself and don´t want to drive prices up using e.g. e-bay. Cameras are guaranteed to work.

Hi
You should have no problem getting a super-8 camera. Check it is actually working, especially the cheap ones. I bought one that worked fine mechanically, but the iris and auto-exposure set-up was knackered. soemthing I did not find out until I had in bits.
It might be a good idea to get two or three cheapos. I have a couple with a basic zoom lense, auto-meter and nothing else. Surprisingly they actually work quite well.
Anyhow, if you get one, or more, get a super-8 Kodak film, Jessops stock it, and test out the cameras. The great thing about the super-8 cartridge is it can be removed mid film with only a few frames being lost. So one cartridge can test a range of cameras. Just film something to remember which camera the film is in at the time!
As for a projector. Eumigs are built like tanks. Most use an easily obtained quarz bulb.
Good luck. Have fun.
