Question about a certain camera

Post by Super-Swede »

I have the chance to buy a Bolex 16 PRO and some other things from a guy but I can´t find much about that camera on the internet accept for some german sites. I know that the Bolex 16 PRO was used by television-companies as a news-camera and it is supposed to be a good performer. What are your expierences with that camera? Tell me the whole story about Bolex 16 PRO!

The Bolex 16 PRO is a 16mm-camera from the early seventies. I know this is a forum for 8 mm and I have done alot of shooting on super-8, but I was hoping that someone could tell me more about this 16mm-camera called Bolex 16 PRO. I am sorry to tell you that I am not familiar with the expressions SBM or EBM, Nigel.

Hello Mattias
Yes you are right that I am swedish, from Skåne.

There is quite a bit about the Bolex Pro in the latest Andrew Alden book I got. I'll have to get back to you this evening about it but there were some disadvantages to it that did not make it popular with some users.

You can get this site

http://home.germany.net/101-81660/bo-blimp.htm

translated by: http://babelfish.altavista.com/

Disadvantage mentioned is: Apparently very awkward mag to cam film loading as far as I glimsed. Took a long time to reload and thus making it more or useless as a news/action cam.

There was also something about not being able to inspect the gate in the middle of a roll. It's all in Andrew's book "A Bolex History".

Thank´s for you help, it seems the Bolex 16 PRO was never that popular, I will get it if I get a very good price since it is rather rare and unusual.
