Has anyone lost film using Kodak prepaid mailers?

Post by Split8mm »

I've lost three rolls of 35mm slide film using Kodak prepaid mailers over the last 5 years. All three times, they tell me they recieved and processed the film but have no record of it being shipped back to me and they can't find it. Has anyone lost 8mm Kodachrome cine film using the Kodak prepaid mailers?

I haven't lost any films yet, but I had to put out a trace for one a year ago. The strange thing was that I mailed Kodak 10 films and I received 9 of them back within a couple of weeks. The last one didn't show up so I waited 3 more weeks and contacted Kodak. They put out a trace for it and all of a sudden it arrived a few days later. However, I don't think the trace made any difference cause the film probably just didn't make it in the same batch as the others. Anyway, just make sure you keep your reference number and preferable the date when you mailed your films - just in case!

Lost a S8 K40 with prepaid mailer

Post by S8 Booster »

It was one of 3 rolls (WITH SOUND!) shot at an airshow of ww2 airplanes. The best one aparently disappeared. I expect the footage to have been outstanding and that someone in the "K" system grabbed it. It´s my best bet. No tracing worked this out.

This one too was apparently developed before disintegrating.

One slide film roll of mine that they lost showed up at my door almost one full year later! They lost another roll just last month. When I called them about it, they asked me what images were on the film to help them locate it. I can just see some poor Kodak employee looking through hundreds of rolls of "lost" film to find mine. :D

I live in Forida and I was waiting for one roll super 8 to be returned which it did exactly on time. The puch line here is that it came back in an oversized envelope with two more rolls of film that were supposed to go to two different locations: Maine and Washingtomn state. The mailman was still there so I imediately gave the other two rolls back to him explaining what had happened.

These are all great examples of why I choose to go with Dwaynes Photo for K40 and not bother with big brother Kodak. If you have a serious film project shot on Super 8, would you mind having your precious original lost by the big-K? I think not. Stick with the Dwaynes Photo if your making films out of the U.S., these reasons prove my point.

Missing Linx!

Just have to add that only 1 film (of umpteen "burned" over the time) disappeared over a period of more than 20 year so I can not really complain after all compared to the others here, its just that THAT FILM was one I really wanted to have.

kodak is run by enron

Post by mike »

I had one roll of super 8 sound film lost by kodak. see "kodak processing woes" I think kodak is run by enron or has employess from enron, because everyone over there passes the buck when it comes to finding the film or refuses to properly compensate me for the loss.

I've not lost film in prepaid mailers, have not used them. When I was actively filming you could still take the film up the the local photo shop to have it sent in to be processed. I have had someone elses vacation come back instead of my film many years back. Thankfully it was just a landscape test film that could easily be replaced. The lab was only 50 miles away at that time and they still could not cough up my film. I am sure the people who lost thier european trip were pretty upset. I do not know if they ever got them when I returned their film, but would guess they raised enough heck to get the correct film. Never did see mine show. Decided to do a quick replacement rather than wait. The processor balked at giving me replacement film at first or refunding the processing. Wanted me to wait it out for a few weeks. The shop covered the film and processing and settled up with the processor later. I miss the ability to go uptown and buy film and get it processed fairly locally.

Possibly I can join the club :(.
Sorry that I did not spot this thread earlier so my post is separated ("film has not come back from development", 1-8-02). Best
