Vinegar smell

Post by Gon_14 »

Hi, I just bought a super 8 film and it smells like vinegar. What does that mean? Is the film damage? It's ok to put it on my projector? Thank you.

Well...first it means it probably wasn't Kodachrome. It was probably an acetate Ektachrome stock.

Next, it means there's no tuning back -- It WILL go bad (not that every film won't eventually). But you can halt the progression using molecular sieves. Go to http://www.fpcfilm.com/supplies-film-pr ... ieves.html.

Keep the film isolated from other films since the gas is contagious.
