If not, they're easy to get serviced.

I have been round and round with people about eBay. Here is what I think...
1) If it is to good to be true--It is and don't buy it.
2) If it can break easily don't buy it.
That is not to say I haven't bought anything on eBay. I have bought lens adaptors and other non-breakable goods. Where did I buy my Aaton(Not eBay)....Where do I buy lenses(Not eBay). I also feel like eBay deflates the costs of upper end gear. I know my Aaton is worth more that 5000USD but that seems to be what people will bid up to.
If you really think it is a great deal arrange to have the camera sent to a reputable camera house for inspection first.
Good Luck

Re: 16mm arriflex....
I don't have much experience from Arriflex cameras, but I suspect all used Arris need overhaul to some degree when purchased second-hand. No matter how trustable the seller is, it is for the best to get all parts checked up at a professional.richalezio wrote:seller says good working condition -but can it be trusted?
Hi, if it were me, firstly i would ask for the camera's serial number, later ones with the bayonet mount are more desirable, then confirm it has a good power lead and motor. I prefer the 12v 24fps motors. From experience i would put money aside for either a service or at least focal depth and collimation check. Ask whether the cameras viewfinder glass has turned a warm/orange colour.
Are there any lenses with the camera????? if so ask whether they have any haze or fungus on the inner optics.

Re: 16mm arriflex....
I woudn't do it. The only cameras I buy on eBay are either really cheap or bought with the intent of having them stripped and repaired before use. I would think that an Arri would probably be easily marketable off eBay for more money, unless there's a problem.richalezio wrote:does anyone have any opinions about buying from ebay?

If you do decide to bid, ask lots of questions first.
