Where can I get a replacement take up reel for a Eumig 610D (dual
standard 8 + super 8 projector)?
Can I use any manufacturer's 8mm take up reel? In other words, is the
spindle generally the same size for all projector take up reels?
If I find another manufacturer's reel, do I need a special adapter to
use it for super 8 films? (I'd settle for a reel that only takes super
8, as my camera only shoots that film)
any used equip shops out there?
thanks,
Ralph

Hi, there.
You can use ANY kind of SUper 8 empty reel as a take up reel provided it fits the available space of the projector in terms of size (e.g. 400 foot/120 metres), usually those Eumig's have that size as standard size. In fact you can't put larger reels while it is possible to use smaller ones (though the start leader might not get to the core of it, even if the reel is "automatic").
Furthermore it is possible to use Super 8 reels on Reg 8/double gauge projectors, by means of an adapter: in fact Reg 8 spindles are smaller than super 8's. Of course the other way round is impossible. Therefore reels that fit both Reg 8 and Super 8 projectors usually come with that adpater, which you do not need if you use the reel on a S/8 machine. So you should really not worry even if you buy double gauge reels.
Hope this helps.
