Hi,
a quick question: Can this unit do this? Or just lap dissolve? Or do I need a A 512? Thank You

According to the 709XL/715 XL instruction manual the camera can only do Fade out/Fade in and Lap dissolve.
You will need a camera which has a backwind/rewind facility. I don't have any info on the A512 so cannot help with that model.
