From your experiences, which super 8 cameras are the quietest while operating at 18 or 24 fps? I've heard that the Canon 814XL-S and 1014XL-S cameras are fairly quiet, and I've also heard the same about the Nizo 6080.
I own a Beaulieu 4008ZMII, and while it's an awesome camera, I think it would be a little too loud for shooting sync sound, at least if the camera is relatively close to the mic. Does anyone know if the "newer" Beaulieu cameras (models from the 6008, 7008, and 9008 series) are significantly quieter than earlier Beaulieu models, or are they equally noisy?

the 6080/4080 is by far the quietest camera.
A well maintained 1014 XL-S/814 XL-S is quiet but not as quiet as 6080. It is quieter than any of Nizo 800 Series (Pro, 800, 801, etc).
4008 is a fridge. The newer Beauliues are quieter but not quiet enough IMHO.
I have owned and/or used 1014 E/XL-S, 814 E/XL-S, Nizo Pro, 6080, 800 and Beauliue 6008 MDS.
I have a Canon 814 XL-S I am planning to sell. It is in mint condition if you are interested (I still the box, foam, warranty card, etc). If you are I will sell you 3 Pro8mm Vission negative stock (2 200T/ 1 320T) for a very low price (originally $35 each, $75 for all three) if you want. Processing is included of course but not transfer.
I am an editor and need the money to upgrade my NTSC monitor.
Hope this helps.

My suggestion is to keep your 4008 as it is absolutely one of the best S8 cameras ever made. Buy a barney for it, and get a tele lens to stay a little away from the mike. All Beaulieus are going to be loud regardless of the year. Reason=guillitine shutter. I have a bolex, canon scoopic, Nikon R-10 (for sale if you like) and Beaulieu. All of my units are MOS. You can buy a barney or rig one up using foam and a little tape. Remember to cover up your lens also as a lot of noise is generated through it.
Hope this helps

The Nizo 6080 is extremely quiet, When you add a barney it is even better, if you plan to shoot sync sound with super8 it is your best option, the bealieu's are just to damn loud to get anywhere close to the action even with a barney, if you dont mind shooting zoomed in from far away it might work.
