5008s question

Post by René »

Hi everyone.

First of all I'm very thankful for this site, as it has given me a lot of information on how to get started with super8, which I've been wanting to do for a long time.

Getting the equipment here in Holland was quite difficult, but recently I found a local 2nd hand store that sold me a Bell & Howell 1223 for 20 euro. Of course I was very happy with this deal, but 3 days later I felt extremely lucky, as I found a Beaulieu 5008s in that same store. The guy thought it was a cheap old video camera and sold it to me for 75 euro's (!).

The camera and lens seem to be in mint condition, the only problem (of course) is the battery. The camera didn't come with it's charger and the battery is probably dead. I've read some articles on making a battery pack for a 4008ZM. Is it the same thing for a 5008s?

I'm pretty new to all this, so any help/pics/diagrams would be very helpful.

Thanks in advance,

René

René,

congratulations on a great buy!

I strongly encourage you to have the camera fully serviced before using it, since you don't know it's service history. I've had several (cheapo) cameras break because they weren't properly lubed after years of non-use. Send your camera of to Bjorn Andersen in Sweden, and have it revamped - it's well worth it.

Read THIS THREAD for more recommendations.

good luck

I have a 5008s and hooked up electrical power to the plug in on the back. its supposed to be used for the charger, but it worked (110v). It might be possible to plug a nicad battery pack through there. An external pack would definately work on the front pins, but unless you make a dummy grip with plugs outside the dummy battery housing, it becomes difficult to be handheld, as the battery serves as part of the handgrip.

I know this is kinda out of place. BUt i jsut started shooting some test footage on my Canon Autozoom 814 Electronic that I picked up on eBay. I just started reading about getting the camera all lubed up. After I finish this Cart where an I bring it to get lubed up and serviced? Should I jsut start calling the local camera shops or what?

Nice buy.

Watch ebay, I have seen various and sundry adaptations to power up a 5008; all in all not that difficult to do.

The 5008 is truely an underestimated cam. I recently had the pleasure to use a freshly serviced one, it is practically silent: easily the most quiet s8 camera I have handled.

The ergos are also excellent.

The beaulieu 3008 and 5008s are very nice cameras.
They have the same exact features as the 4008 or 2008, albeit the variable shutter. I paid about $40.00 for mine. However, I see them on ebay, but they hardly ever sell.

I too can can say that Bjorn is the person to go to. I recently had a 5008 battery re-celled by him, and he serviced my 4008.
