50ft from pro 8

50ft from pro 8
I have just received three 50ft reels back from pro 8mm. Each reel was then transferred using my workprinter. All three reels have approx 1min 58sec on them. This is significantly less than what should be about 2:30 at 24fps. Am I missing something or did I somehow get cartridges with less than 50 ft.

Just to take a guess, I'd say you are using the WorkPrinter that works at 1fps and transferring into Premiere or something that wants to get 30fps, not 24fps. So rather than getting the 150seconds you should be, you are getting 120seconds. It would make sense as their are 3600 frames in 50ft. You need to change the settings in Premiere to be at 24fps, and then later up it to 30fps. Unless there is something I'm missing (which happens).

Yes, that would be my assessment as well. The WorkPrinter transfers 1:1 so when you initially play back, your footage will be running at 30fps (actually 29.97). If you shot your footage at 24fps, simply put the footage on the timeline of Premier (assuming that's what you are using) and right click on the clip to bring up the drop down menu. Choose "speed" and type in 80%. That will change the speed to exactly 23.976fps, the same speed as a Rank transfer and your run time will then be about 2.5 minutes.
As mentioned in another post, Jeff Dodson makes a software that is IDEAL for use with the basic 1fps WorkPrinter as it will do the speed changes while it transfers and also offers interpolated split field frames for the pulldown to smooth out the playback. It is very cost effective ($35) and can be found here:
