What is this thing?
Kodak 8mm Kodachrome II Color Movie Film Magazine
Don't think I've ever seen a regular 8mm cartridge, if that's what this thing is. It sure sounds like it, from the seller's description.
I couldn't resist the novelty of it, and it was cheap, so I bought it.
What sort of cartridge is this?

It is what it is: an ordinary 8mm magazine film. Nothing unusual and quite common.
Search eBay for it (Cine Kodak Magazine) and you will get a lot results. Normally ;-)
Kodak and other manufactures produced many cameras for this cartridge system because it was easier to handle than to change the daylight spools for the second run of the camera. You may say it is a predecessor of the Super8 cartridge.
You can compare it with the 16mm magazine film also produced by Kodak but this cartridge has an other design.
