How big a file would you download to see a clip online?

Post by sunrise »

Trying to determine the best way to get my latest project online, I want to serve as many as possible making a quicktime file compatible with most systems. But the thing is, how long will you wait to see a clip you download?

I honestly don't believe someone on dial-up will download 10MB to watch a 4 minute clip. But would you wait for 4, 5 or...?

What about dsl? How much would you think appropriate 16, 20...?

Project is my latest music video available on band web site and my own site, plus a link here. Any comments welcome.

Hmmm

Downloaded "Rendezvous" from this site (Per Sveinung Larsen's film, though this very minute I've watched Claude Lelouch's on video!)

I think Per's film was 90mb download - definitely worth downloading.

Honestly I just like to see film projects online.... download time doesn't bother me.

I'm on DSL.

Honestly I don't really like waiting more than 2 or 3 minutes. This morning a waited about 10 to view what I thought would be a good clip--Well, it was shit. It was a waste of time. I have DSL--To me the internet just isn't the place to view moving images. If I want to see a movie I will watch it on the big screen or I will buy a TV.

Good Luck

Yes, I've a cable connection and get about 70kb/sec on a bad day. So I don't generally mind waiting, but if I spend an hour downloading a clip, it better be good!

actually you should make two versions, plain and simple :)

if you have some *really* big files (say, 500mb... like to make clips that actually tell something about quality) consider seeding a torrent so everybody shares the bandwith.

I am still on dial-up, don't mind waiting if it is worth downloading. Under 100 meg is fine for me but it'll take about 5 hours.

The download size doesn't really matter. I start the download and go do something else until it's done. I don't watch the pot boil.
