I just received 7 rolls of very special 400 ISO black and white super8 reversal.
These carts are provided by ADF video in Brussels, Belgium. I bought 20 carts two years ago and kept them in fridge.
I was a little worried about grain but interested in a very fast indoor film. ADF themselves said : warning, very few contrast, not for projection (?).
I am just amazed about the result. Very fine image, not so grainy, just like old 16mm. The most interesting is the exposing lattitude for a reversal material. Part of the 7 carts were exposed at 160 ISO, without lightmeter, in a Canon 518 SV and a Bauer C109XL. So it is one stop and an half stop overexposed. Results with no noticeable problems, just slightly clear. This reversal is as easy to expose as a negative. The other carts were exposed at 400 ISO with a 6008 S digital Beaulieu and are fine two.
Projecting is OK, with soft contrast.
This is of course not an advertising BUT I say that because this manufacturer recently stopped processing because of the lack of demand. By chance Super8 reversal lab in Netherlands said me they can process carts from ADF. I am afraid the manufacturer stop too providing his 50, 100 and 400 ISO (50 and 100 I didn’t try it). So, the more the merrier.
By the way this carts are ideal for videotransfert just because of soft contrast, just fine for video. And, I suppose, for blow up.
Perhaps the more interesting is the old look (but not dirty) of this material, for all of us that look for a thirty years ago 16mm look in super8. I am going to use it for simulating archivals films of a little city for a tv documentary.
And I was forgetting the best : these carts are very cheap.

Re: very special 400 ISO black and white super8 reversal
Somebody told me that ADF re-used Kodak cartridges. Is this right. How did they open these things without tearing them apart?setori2 wrote:I just received 7 rolls of very special 400 ISO black and white super8 reversal.

I do not think ADF is still selling these things. If they still exist at all

Kind regards,

I don't know from where this 400 ASA is. A friend of mine think it's russian material, but i donn't know more of that. BW, no anti-halo layer (is that the good word ?) soft contrast. But nice to use. The ADF man is mute about the origin of this film, i understand him, he sell that. The carts a reloadable (i suppose, because they are closed by a tape on each side. I never used Quartz super8, so i cannot compare.
I will try to do some pictures this WE, but can someone explain me how to join pictures with the text ?

Kahl in Koeln Germany also supplies S8 carts and 60meter spools with 400 ISO BW film (and color). The carts remain property of Kahl...Carlos 8mm wrote:I ask myself which is the origin of this 400 B&W ISO reversal stock.
I never heard that a material of this type is manufactured today. :?
Carlos.

Yeah, but Kahl's ISO 400 BW film is a negative stock, not reversal. And as far as I know, all the BW Kahl stocks are ORWO.aj wrote: Kahl in Koeln Germany also supplies S8 carts and 60meter spools with 400 ISO BW film (and color). The carts remain property of Kahl...
Perhaps this ISO 400 B&W reversal stock is ORWO too.
