Regular 8 Color 125

Post by BlindOwl »

Hi,
I just came across a couple of rolls of regular 8 film. The can is marked CINE Color 125 VNF (7240). It is tungsten balanced @ ASA 125 or outdoors @ ASA 80 w/85 filter. Has anyone ever tried this film before? What type is it really and who processes it? I have a Bolex that I intend to film with but am hoping some one can tell me more about this stock before I begin experimenting.
THANKS---

It's Ektachrome and most labs can process it. See the LABS list in the top menu.

VNF 7240

Post by David M. Leugers »

The VNF 7240 tungsten film is a completely different pallete from Kodachrome (if that is your reference point). In 8mm, the film will
exhibit a fair amount of grain (common to higher speed reversal film)
along with much more pastel colors and lower contrast. Alas, the
film is not as sharp as Kodachrome (what is, except for maybe Plus-X B+W?). If you are shooting in the USA and want to see what can be
achieved with this film, I'd recommend waiting for the fall colors to come
out in a few weeks. Skin colors are very nice and close-ups of people look good. One thing about this film, I think it looks much better when transferred to video than a lot of other reversal stocks. Give it a try and see what you can do with it. Good luck.
