Can someone give me some suggestions for uploading some Super 8 clips?
I am using a Mac and was wondering how I should best save my movies to upload to this site?
Compression settings, audio settings, size etc. for upload??

"MPEG is the way to go! From now on, the default movie type for this website is MPEG-1 (standard .mpg). These files can be played back on any system which ofcourse is important, and if you're luck enough to have WMP installed, it plays great fullsize aswell".
Thus sayeth Andreas in Contributions, Movies.
MPEG-1 is a standard no matter if made on a MAC or on a WIN machine.
See VCDhelp.com for specifics and software to make them with.

Upload Formats - QuickTime
MPEG-1 is fine if you have one of the high speed connections. Meanwhile many of us are still operating on 56k modems, which in practise means much less.
After much research I have settled on QuickTime save under the default 40kbps setting in QuickTime Pro 4.
For the most compact files Real .rm or Microsoft .wmv but at the loss of a lot of detail.
The other main advantage of .mov files is the ease with which they can presented embedded on a web page. This is not too difficult with .wmv files, but .rm files do not seem to like being embedded this way. This is a pity because i think for really compact files .rm are better than .wmv.
One advantage of using MS .wmv or REAL .rm files is that they both provide no charge downloadable encoders, while the QT pro has to be paid for. However a tip. QT Pro is on a CD supplied with a book on the programme. It is not as cheap as paying for the download, but has all the details. Also said book may be available in a library - I actually acquired mine through finding the book in a university library.
My efforts can be seen at http://www.siltec.co. uk which has currently been updated with details on cine cameras, books and cartridges.

formats and reasons
Andreas has changed some .mpg movies to various streaming formats to accomodate slower modems here in 'Online films'. See menu to the left. When he gets the time that 'could' be done to other films. However, viewing in this way is not satisfactory past the inital thrill of just doing it at all. This is such a new thing.
Local libraries have fast computers and fast internet lines installed in the Pittsburgh PA USA area now. I have viewed my posted on line movies there; perhaps others could view movies in their libraries till prices drop on cable lines for home use.
MPEG-1 files are required for making VCD disks. They are playable on a lot of DVD players. Programs that burn movies with interactive titles are cheap and use CD burners. Most of us, I think, already have CD burners. Few of us have DVD burners and VCDs are possible for now for most. Postage on a collection of VCD disks should be way cheaper than a stack of VHS tapes. Anyway, the new media of CD movies is nicer just because of the ability to jump to any name on the title list instead of fast forwarding.
SVCD is a higher quality and I have made them as well. They take up more room but look great. The same cheap software was used.
What I'm saying is we movie makers may distribute our movies via internet connections (Libraries) and the downloaders may burn them to CD disks and play them on DVD players or on the computers high resolution screens instead of a TV screen.
Imagine making a Regular8mm (my thing) movie and distributing it all over the world for low no cost. That is what we can do right now. That is why MPEG-1 was chosen, I suppose.
True, the files are bigger than other types. But, it is the only format that burns to make VCD disks that use interactive menus. They also play full screen smoothly on a computer.
