Super-8 Video Assist?
Greetings all,
I have just completed a basic tripod jib I wish to use with my NIZO super8.
The problem is, I have no way of viewing what I am actually filming and I'm not so good at guess work...
I have used a similar setup with a DV camera where I could output (via RCA) to a portable monitor, which worked fine.
As super8 has no such connections, I wonder if it would possible to attach one of those spy cameras (or similar) to the viewfinder which would then be outputed to a monitor...
I am not so fussed concerning resolution, just something to help my framing.
Any ideas/comments on the subject would be greatly appreciated.
Take Care,
Broken~

Ahhh, that should be perfect, thanks Roger
Your right...very cheap, just the way i like it
Have you known of anyone to go this route before by chance? I am curious as to how well these little cameras will pick up the viewfinder image.
Anyway, I see they do a 30day guarantee so if it fails miserably i won't be losing out any.
I'll post my results if anyone is interested.
Cheers,

I would love to hear how these end up working. One thing I wonder about that might not even be an issue is focus, how close will things be in focus on these cameras, since it will be so close to the viewfinder could this be a problem? or will you just have to adjust the diopter and it will simply work? If it works out I may have to try and find the cash to buy one for myself :-)

That's a very good point actually, and one I hadn't really considered to be honest.
I may ask the store concerning focus issues before purchasing one of these things.
Hopefully, as you say, it may just be an issue of focusing the diopter or even purchasing a camera also with a focus to work with, maybe this isn't even an issue.
If you go to the link above, you will see a Sony cigar camera being used in this manner with a Canon super8, so it's definately possible.
I'll let you know...

I actually use these very units to make video taps for 16mm cameras. The lenses will unscrew out to a variety of distances. In fact, you can actually create a really great little "video microscope" by bringing the lens WAY out. I use on like that to inspect components too small for these old eyes.
Anyway, the work perfect for video assist. However, the biggest problem with super 8 cameras is a really dim image. So don't think that you're going to be able to make any quality judgements. Framing only for these babies, but they work great.
