pressure plate
:? hello, any one bought and used the Pressure Plates which are being sold for super 8?
Hello.
I have used the plate with Bauer and Nizo cameras. The results
are very good. Steadiness of frameline and picture are in most
cartridges better as normal. Sharpness is constant over all cassettes and not different. With Ektachrome and Color-negative
you have less problems with jitter as before. (90 % less i would say) . But you can see the difference, not often directly, if everything works well, good camera adjustement and no mechanical problems with the cartridges, but over 2-4 cartridges
directly

Hello again.
There are a lot of differences, if you use Kodachrome 40 or the
two Black &White types and the new types Ektachrome and
Color-Negative. Both types are the same as 16/35 mm material
and thicker as normal for super 8. With both types you have a lot
of problems. We have used for a students project 5 different
Nizo cameras with Ektachrome and not one of this cameras worked well. We contact the Nizo service technican and he told us,
that this material need a little bit more friction. After some tests
the silent camera works not well, but usable, but there are no
results with sound cameras. It was not possible, that Ektachrome
running without steadiness problems. So we use other cameras.
With Color-Negative formerly Surveillance and 7293 inside are
the same and more problems. As it changed to Vision 200
the problems increased rapidly , because the Vision 200 are
0,5 / 100 mm thinner as 7293. With the plate the problems with
our cameras and this two materials now at a minimum. Also
the steadiness of Kodachrome 40 and Black&White are better.
It was not easy for us, to believe, that Kodak sells material, that
have not the same running qualitites as Kodachrome and we have
a lot of discussions with Kodak, but they dont have any interest,
to change something. So we were happy, to use the plate and
now have a minimum of problems. That will help us to shoot
with Super 8. The other discussion was to shot on DV . Thats
not now a thema, because Super 8 works.
