I was wondering what needs to be available, if anything, for future 8mm, super8 and some 16mm filmmaking? Post replies by stating sound stock, k-25 in super 8 carts, more repair/modifications, availabity, for example, etc or anything else you think one would need for filming, including post production, and what you'd be willing to payfor it.
I checked the polls but heres your chance to be more in depth with your answers.

I personally would rather use double system sound than mag striped film for most things even if it was available, I would love to get K-25 in carts if the price was reasonable, a 200ft super8 magazine that was reasonably priced (as aposed to bealiue's) would be nice. More filmstock choices: Vision 50D without prepaid processing and for less than super8sound sells it for would be nice. Super8 printstock for negative film. video taps, mattee boxes, standard professional film accessories for super8 cameras at a reasonable price.
these are just some things I would like, not that they are all feasible.

Actually, a number of accessories do exist, they just need to be found and adapted.
Video tap...there are a number of small 1 chip cameras that can be connected to an LCD display or a minidv camera. As a non-endorsed example, go to http://www.spycameras.net/bullet_camera.htm.
Matte boxes...tiffen makes a series of boxes. You can also go to http://www.camerabellows.com/ for other options.
For widescreen, there are a number of anamorphic lenses available from a variety of manufacturers. They are all used, and varying in size, but they are out there. I have a behemoth Zeiss Anamorphot II I got off Ebay about six months ago.
Some cameras are adaptable...I'm looking at modifying an Elmo magazine to take 200' loads rather than 100'.
You can also widen the gate on your S8 to 16x9 in many cases. Maybe have a duplicate machined so that you aren't destroying your original.
Phil Fitzlaff makes barneys for any s8 camera.
This is a great venue for imagination. I think we can come up with stuff better than what is currently produced.

I believe some of the stuff mentioned is possible. It would just take the right investor, individual or company to do it. I dont think there will be companies, except in rare ocasions, that once made the cameras and film offering or investing any more time in the guage.
If you are looking for a matte box, bavaria home cine was offering the ewa-s8k compendium on ebay for 50 euros. I got mine for 50 euros. now i need some glass filters for it.

8mm wish list
I would love to see a return to roll film usage. I think the people using film today are much more capable and knowledgable about their craft than the typical "snapshot" general public of the past that needed the cartdrige for point and shoot simplicity. Roll film cameras are robust, deliver a rock steady image with no breathing due to the polished metal pressure plate in-camera. I would love to at least have available 50ASA daylight and 200ASA tungsten Vision negative stock in both DS-8 and R-8mm 100ft loads. I am looking forward to seeing if Moviestuff can pull off the 200ft load mod for his Fuji camera. Print film to make projectable copies would be awesome too. As it is, the 8mm scene is pretty incredible and we should all be glad we still have film (thanks Kodak) to shoot. 8)
well I dont think any company is going to be remaking the cameras. It would be up to individuals, Like i said before. roll film is available for 8mm film. I'm attempting to modify my beaulieu 6008 to take 200' ds8 film. Bavaria home cine modifies a beauleu or nizo, but for 200' single super 8 film.
I wish I could find a device that perforates 8mm or super 8 film from different stocks.
I have a striper. I wonder if I could prestripe raw super8 stock?

 In the real commercial world digital will win. This means the technology to maintain cine needs to be developed.
This will mean:
small scale coating plants to make film
table top perforation equipment to cut and punch film
camera and projector mechanisms
suitable lenses
film processing chemicals
film processing equipment
If you think I am joking try buying: papyrus, velum and quill pens. It is possible, but someone has to make them.
Interestingly modern manuafcturing techniques mean lower economic batch quantities. Even lenses should not be a problem when opticians now seem capable of making individual lenses on site.
So - as a clipper ship can be made today that would loose the original, so a cine camera could be made far superior to any made before. It is all in the materials and method, not the fundamentals.
