Anamorph & polarizer test images

Post by sunrise »

Hi,

just got back a k-40 test film that I did with a new anamorph lens...
I also tested a polarizer filter and I thought you'd like to see the results.
This is a handheld transfer off the wall to miniDV, I'll put the roll in the next badge I send of to Andreas to scan...

Specs:
K-40
Beaulieu 7008s
ISCORAMA ANAMORPHOT 1.5 lens
85 filter
Hoya Cir-polarizer
Aspect ratio corrected on computer

What is the rear thread diameter and the rear glass diameter of the ISCORAMA lens that you used? Also, what is the diameter of the front thread of the Beaulieu 7008?

Hey Sunrise,
Did you notice any vignetting looking through your viewfinder? Are you using the isco/schneider 10mm combo lens? I am setting up an iscorama beaulieu combination myself. Looking through my viewfinder, I can go as low as 12mm. I will do a test shoot to see when it actually starts to vignette on film.

Wait, so the polariser made the building disappear?
Am I missing something here? 8O

Lunar07 and souper8,

this is a c-mount lens so it fits directly to the camera. It is also not a zoom lens. I don't know the excact size of the lens, it only states iscorama anamorphot 1.5x - 36, but it looks like it's close to 10mm (actually 9.5). It is easy to mount, easy to set up and delivers some very sharp images.

LOL, no. I ran out of film during the test. I did a tilt and pan to see how the sun reflected in the lens glass.

Hi Sunrise,

hey, the pics looks great!
what is the loss of light (in f-stops) using an anamorphic lens?

Where I can find that Iscorama 1.5 x anamorphic lens and how many bucks does it costs?

Carlos.

Carlos,

the light loss is appr. 1/3 f-stop.

I found the lens on ebay.de and it set me back 400 EUR.

I believe the iscorama-36 has a rear barrel diameter of 52mm and a rear lens element diameter of........36mm
I have a smaller 1.5x iscorama for 8mm cameras. It has a rear thread of 29mm. This one has a very nice mechanism which allows it to be re-aligned without rotating its threads in case the camera front lens thread rotates on focussing. It has what resembles a built-in slip-on adapter that allows the whole anamorphic to be rotated independently of its rear threads. I wonder if all iscoramas are like that. A nice mechanism.

Yes, the Iscorama 42 and 54 have it too.

Thanks! good to know. I have resisted getting any other anamorphic large lens, waiting for these two (iscorama 42 and 54) to make an appearance on eBay. I was hoping they have the same mechanism, and from what you say, they do. Such a mechanism makes shoots with an anamorphic lens a much more easier affair.

There is an extension tube attached to your Iscorama in the picture. Did you took it off when connecting to the Super 8? Because if not, vignetting will result. Replace the tube with a ahort step-up/down ring instead.

There is no vignetting, as you see in the images above.

It is not an extension tube but a full c-mount lens f1.8-22. I don't know if it was custom built, but it works great and needed no collimation to fit the camera.

By the way the widescreen centre do not sell the Isco 54 anymore, as the picture with the price of £1,600 is an old leaflet. I have the Kowa PA35 lens, this has a 54mm rear lens (glass) area.
