Long time member of shooting 8mm who got started in Super 8 and this lovely web site.

Wanted to invite the public to take a glance at my website and possibly post some feedback on load times, design, and anything they feel relevant to this new webpage. I always trusted this community because it was my learning grounds. Let me know what you think.

All feedback and possible links on your webpage appreciated!! How do I get this out in the search engines?

that was bizzarre, but excrutiatingly creative, I am impressed and surprised.

Connection seemed to slow a bit, but I was patient, it was probably my connection and not your server though.

Hi Aarron

Nice site but your photo page killed my broadband so I think it may be a configuration your end, I'm not sure. Let me know what type of images/sizes etc you are using and I will try and find out for you (my business partner is a techie, we own an online recruitment site, but I am going to put a similar personal site together this summer). Perhaps we could share some info. Nice work, what camera(s) do you shoot with.

Can't answer for him but in the "misc" there is a photo that looks like a Nizo 6080 (or 4080).

Hey thanks for the feedback..

So the images on Photo are running at like 300 x 260 dpi.

The camera most of all these images were shot with was an Arri-S 16mm camera, but yes, the individual who mentioned that the misc. section has a photo with my Nizo 6080. Pretty good eye for a super 8 camera!

The connection is running off the .mac website which I have no idea what their speed of connection is. I agree the site is intended for broadband use. Not really a 56k compatible website with all the images and flash files.

yeah, you're obviously very talented. not my type of reel though. this looks more like something you'd want to show to executives than to producers and directors like me. :-) we've been looking through dozens of reels this past month for my upcoming film and it's always better if you can place all these beautiful images in a context. many dp's have a short one minute teaser at the beginning of their reels, like yours, and then some extracts, or in the case of commercials entire clips, from work they're especially proud of. just an idea for you.

Thanks everyone for the thoughts. Regarding the demo reel not really being director/producer friendly, that's an interested idea I never really thought about. I can see how many directors would be interested in seeing how a cinematographer uses shots in order to convey the directors vision and how it would be relevant to see that execution. I am however worried that some cinematographers might be hurt by this due to poor acting, plot, or editing/directing. I considered putting copies of my finished films online too, but was skeptical. Turns out Sundance Channel just picked up a film on the site mentioned under "Films" so I am glad these films are just out on the web or it might lose distribution appeal.

Regarding film stocks, mostly all of its Kodak. Some is Fuji. Probably every stock kodak has made is in the reel, except 800T.

I haven't checked out your site yet because of what I read about the serious loading time. Are you jpg'ing your photos? Usually drops the memory needed by up to 90%!

yeah they are all jpeg'd. I even made a separate page for larger images in the photo section. I think its the flash files that are bogging down my speeds.

I can get pictures down to the 40K range and still have them be about the size of the response window here on Shooting 8mm. (the box size when you respond to a topic.

I also used Jpeg compression on all my stills, however they did range in 100+ k in file size. I have been told the site doens't look as sharp on a PC computer. Any ideas on making both platfroms happy, keeping a small file size, and still keeping things sharp?
