Zeiss Distagon T* Lenses Pricing

Post by sciolist »

Adorama has listed two Carl Zeiss Distagon lenses at eBay.com – listing nos. 235680551893 and 256776534790 – that would appear to be of the same kind, each with f/2.0 maximum apertures, each with T* coatings, each in similar condition, and each intended for the 16mm format. The 8mm lens with PL adapter is priced at $1,320.00 and the 24mm with PL mount $4,099.00. Can anyone explain this great price disparity?

Supply and demand?

„Very Good“ vs. „Good“ (with „Good“ allowing the lens to have fungus, dust, …)?
This space was left intenionally blank.

Either the respective prices are somewhat arbitrary or I'm missing some subtle difference in the lenses. My curiosity arises from the fact that I own an example of the 8mm lens and wide angle lenses like it are often pricier.
