Finally . . . my Anamorphic Setup!

Post by Konton »

I finally got my anamorphic setup put together. It required
1. Nizo 136XL camera with a 9mm-36mm lens - $70
2. Anamorphic Scope Mount - $80
3. Kowa 8Z Anamorphic Lens - $100
So it cost me about $250 just to put the camera system together, but it was worth it! Now I have to start doing some shooting!!!

Just for those people wondering why I chose the Nizo 136 XL. It's because it had a small lens of 9-36mm which fit nicely behind the anamorphic lens. I did get vinetting, but only under 15mm. So from 15-36mm I was fine. I think a Canon 514 XL-S or 310 may have also worked fine, but it does not have a flash contact installed so I could not sync sound with it.

I have the same anamorphic lens. I believe it goes in front of a projector.
Was considering doing the same thing a while ago but didnt get around to it. I am geussing you have to use the anamorphic lens on projection or the images would look fat.

Looks Good

Post by Franko8 »

:D I have to say, this set-up looks Good, and it is not easy to get a good steady set-up with Anamorphic lenses, I think you were the one I sent the collar to, so it is good to see it in use, you may notice on my profile picture the same collar used with the Kowa 8z, in front of an Elmo 230xls, with 200ft cartridge...http://members.aol.com/houiellebecq97// ... Hi Mike! Yes, I either use this on a projector or use Premiere to streach the picture digitally in post. 2.66:1 aspect ratio!

Hi Frank! Yes that was me! The collar is on the camera now, although I also have the one the company send me you suggested, but the rod was REALLY long. I need to have them cut down. But otherwise I was very happy with their results. Took me forever to find a camera that fit my needs.

For some reason your pictures are not working. Why are there no extensions on them?

:D What brilliant setup and it certainly looks the part too.I have not mated my Kowa to my Nizo, but to that little jewel of a camera the Russian
Quartz. As the lens supplied unscrews and is in fact a supplimentary lens albeit a zoom, when removed you still have a 'standard' viewing camera all in perfect fixed focus.Removinf a c-mount thread mount from an old 16mm lens, and mounting it to the Kowa, screwing in the lens is a peice of cake and as I took great care in getting the mount grafted on it ends up fully screwed in and 'vertical'
Due to the fairly large aperture of the c-mount ring, projection is no problem as the S8 aperture projects through even at the largest zoom setting on the projection lens.
All this sounds like a bodge job but what the hell,it works and works well.
Focussing on-camera is taken care of soleley by the anamorph.
