repair Type I UWL lens

Post by coles4038 »

Hi,

It came in the mail from Germany, so psyched to get it, and it had a scratch or crack on the surface of the lens. (whichever is plainly visible in the viewer) I have to assume it happened in the mail.

Does anyone know if this can be fixed? I emailed Sanford Camera Repair nearby Boston and am waiting to hear from them. I'm thinking to contact Schneider Lens Co. directly.

Thanks.

Hi,

I contacted Schneider here on Long Island and they said email Germany. Haven't heard from the parent company. I spoke with
SML in Burbank and they said, "if it's cracked, replace" So I want to tell the story of how I bought this on Ebay UWL type I. It was sent in one of the most flimsiest packages I have ever seen from Aachen. Mockery of a box. (taped up cardboard) Well, the lens was cracked somewhere along the way or in it's origin. Sorry, I can't tell. Buyers beware, I've had 3 lenses have complications from being shipped from Europe and even here in the US. Which means people will want to unload stuff and consider camera equipment an extra $5 or just put in the trash. Insure the lens, it's worth it. One of them I got a refund. This one, I'm afraid I trusted to someone who packed in haste.

Did you buy your lens from Mr. Peters, aka Bonanzabike or super8cams?
Well, we have jad occasion to talk about him, in the past, on this forum.
He's not the best man to deal with, let's say it in this gentle way...

Repair of Schneider UWL I lens

Post by nik-super8 »

Hello coles4038,

I had the same experiences with shopping at eBay here in Germany.
Very often people pack up their goods very poorly and they will be damaged during shipping.
But I have got a (maybe?!) interesting website for you:

visit: http://www.wittner-kinotechnik.de/aktue ... e=so_restp

At the end of the page you will find an offer for the UWL I lens without mounting for only 6.90 EUR.

The german description says: "Original Schneider, Kreuznach lens UWL I without mounting, for amateur craftsman. Maybe used in a filter adaptor or in a filter holder as UWL. Diameter approx. 57 mm. Brand-new!"

Of course you have to put the lens into a mounting or you need somebody to do that.
I think this is quite a cheap way of replacing a broken lens.
But don`t ask me about Wittner´s conditions for international orders and payment details. As far as I know, you can contact them in English.

Pehaps this might help you, greetings from Germany,

Niklas
