Projecting

Post by Guest »

Have been reading some of the earlier posts on lubricating film for projecting, and still a tad confused. I have just bought 2 new projectors, a Prinz Magnon Duo and a Prinz Cabaret IQ - is there anything I need to do to them? Does K40 film come back from being processed having been lubricated? Where to buy these type of cleaning products in UK or Eire?
Thanks....

Also, am interested in projecting sound movies but as most projectors only have 600ft capacity... how do you project feature films?? Films that you see on Ebay for sale, usually 600-1200 ft, are they excerpts?

Thanks.

Hi,

Clean the projector gates (the bit the film goes past behind the lens). Lighter (petrol) fuel is good, but see the 'Great Ideas' file on this site. Get all the grit off - it scratches film. Next, brush (not spray) spray polish (like Pledge) onto the pressure plate (the shiny bit that presses the film against the gate).

If the projectors are self-threading (most later ones are) clean (damp cloth) all the film guides. Now brush spray polish onto them too: especially those around the sprockets. If these surfaces aren't clean and smooth, the projector will eat film.

Make sure that the end of the film is trimmed (see the Great Ideas files again).

I am not sure if Kodak now lubricate. If you are going to sound stripe the film, lubrication has to be removed anyway.

Have fun.
