Kodachrome 40 sound film
I have 2 rolls of this, that I think are dated about 1991.
I don't have a big enthusiasm for sound film these days so I am thinking of just shooting them, as I'm getting desperate for film, however I wondered if anyone out there would be interested in swapping the film, either for K40 or maybe 16mm film? Or maybe even something else?
It's not been refrigerated, but has spent most of it's life in Wales (amounts to the same thing! ;) ) and is still sealed.
I just thought I would throw it open to offers before I use the stuff as it seems like kind of a waste to shoot it silent now sound film is so rare?

Yeah I have a stash of sound film, always looking for more but will pass and let you other people nab this lot!
It does add an extra dimension, though sometimes a silent film is great too - especially of family events because it allows the people involved to talk about what they are viewing on the screen.

You need a sound camera of course, and all cameras I've come across must have a microphone plugged into them - it's not quite like a modern camcorder where the mic is built in (though it may be securely attached to the camera).
And then, assuming everything is working fine, you just send it to Kodak as usual. The sound is recorded on a thin strip of magnetic tape material (just like in a tape recorder) which runs down the edge of the film for its entire length. This is not affected by the processing chemicals at all, so when the film is processed there is a magnetic audio signal recorded along with the images.
So you just send the film off, and when it returns you have a film that when put through a sound projector yields the sounds recorded at the time of filming.

Have you ever considered secretly audio recording the viewing of your silent home movies. Just like that you have created your "behind the scenes" audio commentary for the DVD version!Angus wrote:Yeah I have a stash of sound film, always looking for more but will pass and let you other people nab this lot!

I am also looking for K-40 sound film, or empty sound carts. I am in the USA.
Trade for fresh film, or I'll buy from you.
