changing super 8 cartridges

Post by bfjames74 »

I'm testing some film from pro8mm this weekend and wondered if anyone could tell me if it was possible to shoot part of one cartridge, then take it out, shoot another, then go back to the original cartridge.

I'm testing several different film stocks and it would be simpler if I could test several in the same situation without having to finish one roll before starting the other.

Thanks

Sure you can - no problem at all. You will only loose aproximatly 24 frames due to exposure. Besides that the counter will also be reset, but you can remove one cartridge, shoot another one and then re insert the first one without any problems any time.

Yes, I do this all the time (for different emulsions). It is a good idea to keep a log for each cartridge with the time of each sequence. I do this by counting seconds - 'one and a half'; 'two and a half' ... it comes naturally after a while. The resulting error is usually less than 10 seconds over a cartridge.

I find the loss of frames per cartridge is usually around ten, but don't lets fight over it!

Hmm.. You're absolutly right, Tim. I belive it's around 10 frames lost when swapping cartridge before it's fully used.
