GL2 & Workprinter

Post by g2g2 »

I am new to the Workprinter and have been trying to set up using a Canon GL2 camera. After many hours of adjusting the timing I finally switched to a Sony(single CCD) and it works fine. So I assume that the problem is in the camera settings.
Is anyone using a GL2 successfully?
I have tried adjusting the timing and got an almost perfect capture. When I try it again, with no changes, the capture shows a lot of frame movement. I have tried changing the shutter speed - this changes the frame movement but will not eliminate it.
Any help would be appreciated

Which Workprinter are you using? Is the problem only frame movement? Have you tried contacting Roger directly? He is always available and very helpful! (24x7, or so it seems...)

The "film movement" problem he is having isn't a registration issue but, rather, a problem with setting the synch adjustment. This is necessary to avoid vertical blurs that can occur when the computer happens to capture while the film is being pulled into position by the claw. Unfortunately, no two DV cameras have the same delay in processing their video signal to digital, therefore, the synch has to be adjusted to fit the delay characteristics of what ever camera is being used. In this particular case, he has two cameras; a Sony and a Canon. For some reason, the Sony is stable on its output but the Canon is (possibly) exhibiting a fluctation in its delay. Not enough to be seen by the naked eye on a monitor but enough to cause synch problems at during the hyper critical capture time of the WorkPrinter at 8fps. I've been in contact with him and we are working on a solution.

I know that the GL2, like it's PAL XM2 cousin, incorporates a clear scan feature which helps to elimate flicker. Could this possibly solve the problem?

I had that same problem when i switched from my sony single chip to my gl2. You just need to adjust the sync. It took me 5-6 tries before i found the best one but all is good now.
