A trivial projector performance gain. Wonder if Chip Foose would do this?..

This is a trivial performance gain that can help some projectors. A lot of projectors have their own body in the way so stray light from the lens clips it and maybe even reflects onto the screen. Most Elmo 16-cl's have a white diecast frame with black plastic on both sides. The stray lens light was reflecting brightly off the white so I spray painted it flat black to help keep the room darker. Tried to do it in a manner Chip Foose might so it looks like it could have come that way from the factory. Still waiting for the paint to dry before I pull the masking tape off. Good idea ! It makes sense that the image would improve also maybe in clarity. Just like camera lenses use hoods.

Thanks Doug, Yes that does help slightly. Especially in a small brightly painted room which certainly hurts real world performance because just a little light pollution really lights it up! Here is my result.

Didn't take a pic, but when I'm using the smaller 800 foot takeup I can hang a magazine with a dark cover over the handle to stop the light from going on the white ceiling as shown here.

It makes a major difference! When I do this I start to notice things in my films that I never noticed before! Just make sure there is enough room around it for the air to escape!
