I just shot some Super8 basic camera tests. Make sure that your video settings are in HD. It was an extremely hot day here in Las Vegas, my friend and I made it as quick as possible. It was Kodak Vision 3 50D color negative. Shot on a Beaulieu 7008 camera, Angenieux 6-70 zoom, Zeiss Cinema Prime 18mm and Letus AnamorphX anamorphic lens adaptors were tested. Scanned at 4K on a Scannitty film scanner to DPX Log files by Pro8mm. To keep things raw only basic levels adjustments were made in After Effects, obviously things can be improved with color correction and grain management. The footage is stabilized by warp stabilizer (in the position setting). No grain management was used which may cause havoc with the H.264 compression. I almost did a grain reduction pass but it looks a little clean IMHO and doesn't show what to expect out of the can. I didn't have ND's handy so under/over exposure tests were limited to plus 4 and minus 1 stops. I suggest downloading the original from Vimeo as it's less compressed.
I also uploaded a maximum quality JPEG to IMGUR which is the best I can do at the moment, from top to bottom are LOG, color corrected and a pass of grain reduction: http://imgur.com/a/5pmTN

I really like what I'm looking at here! Yes, I say DON'T use grain management or reduction. Do use that Zeiss! What is "Warp Stabilizer"? I think if that camera has good registration I wouldn't use a stabilizer. How did that pine cone taste?... Oh yeah, one more thing. You should use a toothbrush or some other small brush to clean out the film gate. Some people do it every roll of film.

Yeah, Warp stabilizer but in the "position" setting , not "subspace warp" which creates those weird artifacts. I had a pressure plate on the cartridge but it's still pretty unstable since S8 is not pin registered (with the exception of the Logmar camera). The only problem with the grain and online video is that you end up stressing the codec and causing the pixel soup look on some platforms.

Oh, Nice! I need to get one of those pressure plates! I believe the Leicina also has pin registration if you're lucky enough to be able to find one. I'm very happy for you about what you're getting now, trying to think of how to get an even more high end image. Are you using a matte? You've got the daylight filter out of the way right?

Using a matte? A matte box? No, I wasn't. The Beaulieu 7008 doesn't have a built in filter.

yeah, a matte box and maybe that 200 foot reloadable cartridge that beaulieu made if you can find one or one of the alternative cartridges...

Just a small correction: You mean the Lasergraphics Scanstation I believe?

Oh, is that what they have? Sorry if I was mistaken.
