Hello!
I decided to test my "new" Quarz DS8-3 during my vacation with some Foma film. Now I'm left wondering: did I miss something or is my camera broken? It seems the film on the take up spool isn't getting wound tightly enough, thus when opening the camera the daylight spool is of no protection at all against light. Should there be something to push the film towards the spool to keep it from breaking free? Has the motor just gotten too weak? Or have I failed at loading this camera?

Re: Quarz DS8-3
Now that the film has been spoiled you can use it to check out your camera (save it for future use). With the door open and the film end securely attached into the take-up reel slot and a few inches of film wound onto the reel to keep it in place, operate the camera running the entire roll through the camera to observe what is going on. If the film takes up properly without a hitch, your problem was probably the film end may have come loose from the take-up reel so that the film didn't wind onto the reel properly. If the film doesn't take-up or doesn't seem to keep up with the amount of film coming at the take-up reel, you have a camera issue. Is your take-up reel a metal one or is it plastic as in just a used one film came on? Sometimes a plastic reel can be worn or damaged and prevent proper operation. If that is the case, getting a good metal reel to try would be a good idea before condemning the camera.
