Octameter for H8 info

Post by 7OSE9 »

Question for Bolex experts, Help!
On my H8 Bolex Rex 4, with Pan Cinor RX H8, I have Octameter for H8 version, model VIHUI. I also have the "extended bracket for Octameter" an extremely rare accessory!
The normal horizontal parallaxe is a standard problem through by dial distances function on the side of Octameter, Ok, but I note also a parallaxe vertical problem. The manuals, of course, say that the lens and the Octameter are on the same level and there should not be the problem, Ok, but I note the problem. Maybe the weight and length of the Pan Cinor lens make it a little 'down compared to Octameter?
I remember thate the Pancinor Rx H8 it came out on the marker AFTER the Octameter VIHUI. Ah, the problem is with the bracket installed and without the bracket.
It's a fixable problem?

Hopefully your problem is not with the lens hanging down under it's own weight, that would cause focus problems. I would think the Octameter extension bracket is causing the problem. Maybe it's slightly bent or not mounting snug enough. That bracket is designed for use with the stereo lens so you shouldn't need it with the Pan Cinor lens. Do you have the same problem when the Octameter is mounted directly to the door without the extension bracket?

Quote from the web site below:
Extension Bracket Bolex Product Code:- SUMET
This bracket allows you to mount a viewfinder on the side of a Bayonet mount camera such as an SB, SBM and EBM although not an EL which has missed off the viewfinder mounting bracket altogether in place of clips to hold an external battery. You can fit a viewfinder on a SB, SBM and EBM camera already without this bracket because the camera door has the standard mounting points and a viewfinder will fit on them unaided.

However bayonet cameras have a bigger lens mount with an extra bit of plastic which extends outward from the left side of the camera which will obscure the image through the viewfinder, hence the need for this bracket. If you only intend to use the viewfinder off the camera to get a general impression of what lens to use for a particular scene and then always clip it back on the camera and don't use it to frame what you are shooting then there is no need for this bracket.

This bracket first appeared as part of the standard kit of items that came with the Bolex stereo system. The reason being that the lens for that system overshot the left side of the camera also. Bolex just started to re manufacture it for this problem.

Yes, same problem with mounted directly, but much less, as if by increasing the distance of the Octamer from the door of camera also would increase the problem.

I bought the accessory for this reason (Pancinor lenght):

However bayonet cameras have a bigger lens mount with an extra bit of plastic which extends outward from the left side of the camera which will obscure the image through the viewfinder

although the initial plan of Bolex was just for just with stereo kit, but then, as the text says, was also sold separately, and I have a dedicated box for it.

However, it's only a small detail, I use the Octamer only for a quick look, but since now I have it (have not paid much) wanted to try to resolve the issue.
Ah, was directly on Octamer and on the bracket there are two screws that adjust the height (also on the bracket work the same way). I might try there?

I exclude the weight of the lens, it was only a guess, I have for years the Pan Cinor and I never had problems with focus, and lens is also very stable.
