Is it possible to process K40 as B/W neg using D76 or simila

A friend of mine claims he still has several miles of Kodachrome which he'd like to process himself (he has E6 processor etc). I told him it's a no way to achieve color reversal, he can only get a B/W negative image and he now wants to pursue this goal, but how can this be done practically? Thank you

I have developed it as a black and white negative but the negative will be very dark. The way I did it was Semi-Stand development in Rodinal for one hour. I have also sent some to Film Rescue International, they will get much better results. I don't know how they do it but it makes a big difference if the image was shot on the film when it was fresh. If it was shot after the film expired the image won't be very good.

Mostly it is turned into negative which needs scanning of course

If it was shot after the film expired the image won't be very good.

I think you can fix that by giving the film more exposure.
