Anyone ever try opening a projector lens f stop bigger?

I've got 4 increlite 1 inch f1.6 lenses. I'm wondering how well it would work if I took one apart and put the body on a lathe to open the hole up to maybe f1.5 or f1.4? Has anyone ever tried this?

I have a Meopta 50-1.0 projection lens. It’s not the worst, technically, but the field is so shallow that the film is shown to constantly move in and out of focus.
From my years as projectionist I’d say that the 1:2.0 ratio is good. If you need more light, there are better ways of enhancement.

Yeah you told me about your lenses. Which one is your favorite? You use the Meopta for 16mm right? I know just what you mean about a film wandering in and out of focus. Are you using large cored reels and is your projector rewinding the films with a little bit of tension? By the way the Increlite is from a standard 8 Bell and Howell, also have a super 8 projector that uses the same lens but it's really too small for super 8.

I have done exactly the opposite : have put a perfect circular iris set at about f:4. the purpose was to enhance the quality, and i must say tha it was got. the images were perfectly in focus from corner to corner with better color resolution. to compensate for light loss i replaced the projector lamp with a more powered one. The projector is a Super 16 Microtecnica

Oh, so it's one of these? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YWsKqJ6cBu0 I've been wondering about that projector. Does it come with a gate for regular 16 and one for super 16? I presume it came with 250 watt halogen, what did you replace it with?

the mine is Microtecnica 27J, it is very similar. I can not project regular 16mm with soundtrack anymore, unless i want to see the soundtrack dancing in the side of the screen The lamp has been replaced with a new Sylvania 82 Volt 410 Watt and an external power supply. I was planning to fit an arc lamp ( the Marc 300) but didn't found the relative power supply

So the takeup reel goes in the opposite direction just like in the video right? Makes me wonder if they did that because it's better for the film? Or if they just did that so they wouldn't have to make a takeup arm? So is that sylvania a HID or xenon? Does the original fan keep it cool enough?

well, it is a bit weird, because my 27J runs in the stright direction The Sylvania is an incandescent lamp with integrated reflector like the original one that comes with the projector. The fan works great and avoids the projector melting

I think I'd be more worried about the heat damaging the films than melting the projector.
